This game is crap.

Loading times (after a full install) are a complete joke. From inserting the disk to actually driving in a race takes over 3 minutes.

The graphics are rubbish, flickering scenery, blurry textures, shadows drawn with an Etch a Sketch, jaggies on the cars. Music is the most annoying jazz, crap, I've got a piano and I am just mashing the keys, pile of dog dirt.

Loading times between menus is to long, the game says my time and date are wrong, they aren't. Go back to the main menu sometimes the cursor doesn't appear for ages and ages no matter how many buttons you keep mashing. Sometimes the silver GT logo can be on screen for five minutes before it loads the whatever it was supposed to be loading. It's been there for so long sometimes I've actually ejected the disk and reloaded the game.

The force feedback effects are poor, the in car wheel turns less then I am actually turning it. Just a gentle glance of the accelerator pedal and you are on full revs, the brakes are the same.

The AI is as crap as the first GT game, after 3 corners you are miles in front and it's not even a race.

There are too many menus, the cars to choose from take ages to load up in acrade mode.

There's no way I am prepared to do any more of the B licence. One and a half minutes to load and start a test for it to last 16 seconds......**** off.


If this is the result of six years of development time then PD may as well stop now, because it just isn't funny. I bought a PS3 for this game and F1, when Sony had the exclusive licence. It's sat under my TV as a media server waiting for Gt5 for at least two and a half years and I can honestly say I don't think it was work the 60 minutes it took to update and install it.


And this is in the first hour of playing time. I will give it more time, but my initial experience isn't good at all.

So what is the official judgement ? disappointing ? so there is really bad screen tearing and graphical glitches throughout ?

after looking at above post think I'll wait until I can get this for £15 or less and judging by that it shouldn't be too long
 
I have been playing it for a few days and its ok its quite flawed especially for a game with such a big development time. It seems they have spent a lot of time making cars look nice and forgot the rest, they need another 6 years to finish the other cars.. Hopefully most of the bugs will be ironed out in a patch but who knows, hopefully polyphony will pull their finger out and get things fixed as this is not really doing the PS3 the justice it really deserves. This should be the best racing game by far but so far its not by any means..

Just won the Top Gear 111R race by ~5 seconds IIRC. Overtook the 1st 111R between chicago and the hammerhead.

The VW Camper van is doing my head in.

Oh and the 300SL Special I keep missing it by 1~2 seconds on the sectors apart from the 1st one and ~8 seconds on the full thing :(
 
The game does have it's niggles but personally I think the good bits outweigh the bad. I'm chuffed to be playing GT again and it's definitely the first PS3 title that has had me wonder where the hours disappeared to, that hasn't happened for years. The last 2 days have proven to me that i'm still a big kid!
 
Anyone managed the intermediate Top Gear event with the Elise? I can barely drive the thing in a straight line, never mind get round the track!
 
I've been playing the game today and although the loading times were slow, for some reason tonight I find them really, really slow.. it's most noticable returning to a main menu from doing something, you get to hear almost a full song before you get anywhere...

I was thinking is it doing something else other than loading, maybe accessing their network or something and that's busy tonight and thus slowing things down.. if there is no reason other than slow loading then I'm afraid that would drive me nuts and make it unplayable. I've checked with a couple of mates and they report the same thing..
 
Yep I've noticed it was a lot slower this evening compared to this afternoon. It has to be doing a bit of syncing or something.

Sure have! Had to use the aids even though that's still a fruitless task it helps! Managed to get the 1st place car running up to Gambon on the last lap.
 
A very painful initial experience of GT5. Loading times, the music, the loading... I also messed up big time and bought a 2CV first time around. I restarted and bought a proper car this time. Oh dear... Racing wasn't too bad though.

I've now set it to do the 50 minute install, while I watch The Apprentice. Must load faster.

Indeed it's an absolute nightmare. The only way I managed to get gold on that event was to turn all the assists on and even then it was a struggle. :eek:
 
Is this the best the PS3 can manage? I thought PD would be on the cutting edge with PS3, but this game looks poor. Nasty jaggies, poor textures, horrible screen tearing, blocky shadows and really annoying music (even more so than the previous GT games).

It's even more disappointing given how long it's taken to be released.

I expected this to be a real flagship title for PS3. If it had been released as a launch title when PS3 came out I could understand it, but this far down the line I would have thought PD would have been able to get more out of such a sophisticated platform.

I will keep plugging away at this, but Forza 3 and the 'ring are calling....and Forza 4 is on the way. Hope Turn10 can show PD how it's done.
