Thread drift

This thread itself demonstrates exactly why we should stop thread drift tbh. The threads get tiresome very quickly when the usual ilk start typing in their internet meme laden rubbish.

The result might be more boring to some, but I like boring, and I like order :)

Yep would annoy the hell out of me, thread fdrift is essential and is how we all comunacte every day in real life. Discussions naturally evolve and would be stupid if you had to keep making new threads.

But can we ban "in jokes" lile pasy smashing and the other 101 sayingd that crop up in every other thread and just aren't funny after the 2nd time let alone the millionth.

It's called having a laugh. There are plenty of serious and ordered threads on ocuk, join those and quit carping on....:)

Like many for me it depends on the thread and topic; sometimes thread drift is good, even necessary, to keep it interesting and other times it's just because someone has nothing of relevance to say and only want to distract from a topic to get attention focused on them. It would be difficult to attempt to formulate any single rule to cover all situations so as I think is the intention here - moderators should continue to use their discretion.

I think the mods control too much as it is on here, let alone on judging whether a post is on topic. How on earth are you going to police that? You are opening yourselves up for attack there since it's not something that can be kept consistent and is so post specific. How can you determine how on topic a post is? This is not something that can be rated. Maybe put some effort into improving the forum elsewhere by doing something productive rather than trying to limit and constrain us all the time.

As long as it doesn't turn into a bitchfest/slating other members then I think we're all happy :)

You mean like moving a member's thread from GD to a forum he's banned from so he can be slated without being able to reply? :)

(Although that did make me happy, but talk about double standards!)

Well, you can, allow me to demonstrate:

So, my question is: if we stopped all off topic posts why would it annoy the hell out of you and why would it be detrimental to the forum?

No it wouldn't annoy me, but I think a little topic deviation does make for decent entertainment a lot of the time.

Lol, eggface.

In real life conversations drift the same here, they develop, go backwards, go somewhere new, it’s the normal way of things. It’s what makes this place different from all the rest. If you start to enforce keeping on topic this forum will die and become a meaningless backwater. I want some moderation not thought control. So leave as is.
