***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

Is that the little convertible? I loved that on GT3/4 Concept/Tokyo :D

Just seen the Renault 5 Turbo Rally car and the Nomad Diablo pop up on used, and I'm no way near being able to afford them :(

Yeah little weird open top 2 seater thing, almost looks like a slightly bigger go-kart

Picked it up on Thursday, took advantage of the 7 day return policy this morning. Played a fair bit of it over the weekend an have been very underwhelmed (Up to around level 20). Had to download 2 120+ meg patches. The install took an absolute age to give me quicker loading times that arent exactly rapid, I dread to think of the tedium without the install.

I was very much looking forward to this but I dont think it gives us anything new, without the GT label it would just be another generic racer. I loved the gokarts though, even though they were fairly easy.
How real is "The real driving simulator" that lets you hit a concrete wall at 150mph, hear a little bump noise then drive off with a scratched bumper?

Its my first 3D game but even that didnt save it, while the graphics are far better, the 3D experience is no better than the demo of the poor Pacific Rift I got with my TV.

Wow, so it gets 9/10 yet is just the same old GT nothing new, no fancy gaming physics and online play which is a must these days is broken?

I don't get the hate for the patches...people would be moaning if no patches were provided. Its great that patches came through so quickly.

Takes all of a few minutes to d/l.

Depending on your internet connection, how big are they, I get limited at 6pm till midnight about 1 meg and it not even worth downloading anything in that time

This game will evolve and prove to be ground breaking in many ways, at the same rate
that the haters who've played the game for 5 minutes and decide it's rubbish leave.

In fact, the quicker the haters depart the better the game will become.

Well then it sucks for you, but it doesn't make patches bad. :p

I've lived with that pain (0.8-0.9mbps at best) before until I sorted it. :o

I managed to find a 1974 ish mistsubishi rally car for 12 k had 128 BHP stock cue some impromptu tuning and the bloody thing flies like hell.

What car did you use

I got some awful looking 70s Dome Concept car for winning one of the later tournaments, it raped those other classics though i think it has 197bhp :)

When TimBrad's done ill happily gift it out to anyone in need btw.

Also have a Ford F150 pickup available

Finally got round to playing it. The realism really becomes noticable around corners where you just can't push the cars without going off track. Rather difficult and it'll take me some getting use to.

I'm curious as to what order everyone is taking?

I've just done the a licence and have moved onto my first race in a-spec and won that and then called it a day :p Also had a go at the karting as I got given one and it's frustrating due to the congestion which builds up at the start and then after the first corner the handling just goes berserk, I struggle to keep the kart straight!

Iv played quiet a bit now, and as a BIG. GT fan, as well as Jap Car fan, this GT blows previous GT4 out of the way. I always here people moaning about how bad the crash system is and bla bla, but not sure about rest of GT fans, but I personally dont really care much about the crash damage etc as I didn't complain about it in GT4 or 3, its the Physics system that matters, as well as the volume of cars available. Anyways, I liked the fact that I was able to get a descent first car (EK9 Civic) and tune the crap out of it, with funds generated from special events. Iv spent 200k just on the EK9 that iv no money left o.O

But if yu guys want a krazy fun car for Nurgburgring, try the EK9 with all top end parts and RaceMod too, and make sure you tune the transmission and suspension << its as quick as my 890bhp R34 from GT4 @ Trial Mountain.

Ill update the EK9 settings soon, and post em up.

Blasphemy!!! The Dome Zero is godly looking and I am absolutely loving it, spent all of Suzuka East sideways and loved every second, gonna finish the tourney tomorrow then I will send it on/back?

:)

Managed to get in a few hours play and I really like it so far. Havent played a GT game extensively since GT2 so Im finding the license stuff and all the old tracks to be a lot of fun.

Seen a bit of tearing, some dodgy shadows and noticed the awful collision sounds, really does sound like someone kicking a wheely bin bull of wet cardboard.
Absolutely loving it so far, I was so excited to be driving the TG test track and the gf is absolutely sick of me calling her to come and look at whatever Ive found thats excited the hell out of me and bored/annoyed her. Still, downloaded the Little Big Planet demo for her, never seen anyone get addicted to a game so quickly!

Really enjoying the PS3, the positioning of the left stick is taking a bit of getting use to but Id forgotten what a great piece of kit this console is. Plus Uncharted 2 seems bloody fantastic so far.

Seen a bit of tearing.

I'd assume that would be the lack of Vsync, seen it myself quite a few times. I guess it was either 720p with Vsync or 1080p without.

Loving my Ferrari 458 Italia, although strangely the BHP readout varies up and down even without oil changes. She is a bit feisty under breaking and could corner a bit sharper but will do until I can afford something better.

Quick question for those GT vets, you can change the tyres and the difference between hard, medium and soft is obviously a trade-off between grip and durability, but was does low durability mean in game? Is it just that low durability tires smoke and become less effective quicker?

I also find it strange that there are no braking upgrades or options, unless I'm missing something.

Despite this games flaws I'm loving it, far more than I expected to :)

Good to see PD move fairly quickly with the patches as well.

Spend friday night/today mainly focussing on the licences (aiming for gold all the way) and special events (I love these) so I've only done a couple of races so far, but now got >500k and bought a few cars for good measure from the used car lot.

Did manage to find the ultimate in frustration though by doing IB5 0.003 outside gold time :@ (well maybe not, but the 3rd in line at least :p)

Speed, the tyre durability generally doesn't matter for 'normal' races (assuming not too much has changed from GT5), it's more the endurance races and how long a stint can be. Obviously a long track and/or a powerful car that will munch it's tyres more may cause issues with using the soft even for sprint races.

Braking is a weird one, been there for all previous GT's and now they're not upgradeable, with no real explanation as to why...

Thanks for the info, yeah the braking is a bit strange, I mean it is one of the key parts of a car. Would be nice to get a carbon ceramic disc option or something.

I have to say one key thing that annoyed me was the ECU upgrade you seem to be able to do on all cars, regardless of if they are really old or not, ie cira 1944! That is just silly, especially for a driving sim game which already stops you installing certain parts on certain types of engines/cars.

Yeah, I'm hoping they'll add brake upgrades in an update, or at least explain why they aren't there, but who knows...

Hadn't noticed that, quite amusing though :)

Just done IB all gold, just 2 left now \o/
