:eek: Just remembered I only have a Seasonic 850 psu. Is it going to be enough?

I basically asked that question in this thread. I think it was Flanno that replied saying a 1KW PSU is recommended if overclocking.

Looking at the graphs, 620W doesn't look too bad, but the 777W under Furmark and Program X might be worrying if you also consider the CPU and bits and bobs. Since my i5 750 is 95W at stock and I'm assuming it'll be a bit higher than that when overclocked. At this point there might be issues.

EDIT: Just noticed those figures are the total system power consumption not just the graphics cards.

Can see these at 270-300, seems basically a 480 with just the memory bandwidth crippled a bit, overall I can see performance been about same on both.
 
They would have to be less than £270 when a 580 is selling at £311.

Guess what is going to be on the nvidia dual GPU card though?

2 x 570. Pretty good bet I reckon.
 
Are you actually going to run it like that? What about overclocking them?

You would never catch me running a PSU that close to it's limit. There's so many reasons not to.

Can't afford a new psu atm. My gtx470's are overclocked to 839 anyway and everything is running fine on my psu.

So an extra 41W should be fine I hope.

If it isn't then they will have to run at stock until I can afford a new PSU.
 
BTW, I hear you're after blocks for them. I'm sure that I read somewhere that the EK 480 one fits, might be worth checking with them.
 
True 2x 6-pin will be a bit of an issue - I was assuming it was 1x 8, 1x 6 for some reason.

The power cables have absolutely zero effect on over clocking whatsoever, the only physical difference between an 8 pin connector and a 6 pin is the presence of 2 additional ground wires in the 8 pin.

The rated power that the cables can supply is just that, the rated power, not what it is actually capable of providing just what it is rated to provide. A 6 pin PCI-e connector doesn't suddenly decide to stop giving the graphics card power if too much current is drawn.

The only time power connectors have ever had an affect over clocking (IIRC) was with the 2900 XT where over clocking via ATi overdrive was disabled unless you had the 8 pin connector. However over clocking via 3rd party apps was completely unaffected by the absence of the 8 pin connector.
 
Quite happy with my OC'd 470, might go sli if the price's drop.

Yeah hoping for some decent price drops too. Quite fancy an upgrade to my gtx 260 ssc, although to be fair it still holds its own in all the games I play.

PS, prices of the 480s are surely going to plumet now!:p

These are already starting to struggle to sell in the second hand market! saw one go one ebay for £195!!:D guttered I missed it!

But if you look at what they've done with the 580 - they will probably throttle the 570 back likewise when it exceeds the rated wattage for 2x 6-pin + slot.

And while it doesn't just stop working no - its not generally a good idea to go to far above the rated levels or you end up with connectors catching fire or wires melting or even damage to the motherboard.

A few weeks ago was a great time to go 470 sli, the gigabyte oc models i bought cost £214.00 and £189.00 respectively, (one on TWO deal). After selling my two gtx 275's and a mafia2 code, the pair cost me £259.00. The last remaining stock of theese cards were back up at £220.00 last night.
