Fitting a VF3000F to a GTX470, findings and conclusions.

Rolypolyman,

Nice temp drops ! Can you try running with fans at lower speed setting and let us know your results?

For agedIdiot and anyone else interested and apologies to op if you think i'm hijacking your thread. Thought this would be interesting as I wanted the Zalman 3000F cooler but couldn't find one so got a Gelid Icy Vision instead.

As previously said the gelid fans run at full speed all the time ( 2000rpm +\- 10% )and although not very noisy it is certainly noticible. So I have fitted a Fanmate and tried various fan speeds at various settings. My Gelid fanspeed maxes out at 1800rpm quite a bit below their quoted speed and right at the limit of there tolerance. With the fanmate turned all the way down fanspeed was 1118rpm and is silent. Idle at this speed saw a temp of 27-28c bearing in mind that at full speed (1800rpm ) the idle temp was 26c, so nice to know that you can turn down the speed to the minimum and have silence and it doesn't adversely affect the temps. I was quite surprised by this so I ran a wee experiment and overclocked the 470 to 751 Core, 1502 shader, left the memory and voltage at stock and checked the idle temps which were, after a brief rise to 32c, 28c. Also played Fallout NV at the overclock settings and the temps maxxed at 39c!!, I think thats very impressive. I also ran the same test(overclocked ) with max fanspeed and idle temp was 27c, Fallout NV max 37c, everything stable. All these readings were done with Msi Afterburner, see screenshot below. What are these cards capable of on stock voltage, anyone know? Anyway hope this has helped some of you make your mind up about which cooler to go with.

****Disclaimer**** Anyone who re-produces what I have done does so at their own risk.:p

The very last screw I had to remove from the backplate wouldn't come out and I screamed NOOOOOoooooooooooo!!!!!. Regained my composure, tried again with a bit more pressure and it came out. YAHOOOooooo! Keeched my pants but hey thats what happens when you mess around.:D

Thanks for the info.- excellent temps.:D

Reviews I've read , for the Zalman, have shown very similar load temps at both high and low speeds and it looks as though the Gelid is similar.

^^No probs mate, to be honest if the Zalman 3000F had been available I'd probably have bought it and i believe it comes with the fanmate. However I'm very happy with the gelid now i have control of the fanspeed, makes all the difference and should have been included in the package.:D

Just fitted one of these zalmans to my GTX480 it was easy. Idles at about 30C ( 405hz because of 120hz monitor ) havent seen it go above 65C maybe because of these winter tempertaures.
But im very pleased with results and i no longer have to hear the gpu ramp up the fan during a game :D

I'm running a couple of GTX 480s with threse on and SLi works perfectly. I've even got a single slot 9800GT in between them as a PhysX card. Motherboard is an Asus Rampage Extreme III.

im running a rampage 3 extreme and have been using gtx470s in sli
runs liek a dream, but i lost one of the cards (never overclocked)

ive had a hell of a job getting another 470, i wanted an asus one to match the one i got. (i know it doesnt matter brandwise)

anyway i got one and thought id order a couple of zalman 3000fs to keep the temp down and hopefully stop another one dying.

my worry is now if i can fit them in as id heard the cooler was 3 slots wide?

on my rampage 3 board i have 4 slots, the baord supports triple sli im told

i do hope i can fit them on as the psu is alittle too close for comfort to the edge of the motherboard

are the 480s the asame width as the 470s with a cooler on?

ill know shortly i guess when they arrive.....
