For agedIdiot and anyone else interested and apologies to op if you think i'm hijacking your thread. Thought this would be interesting as I wanted the Zalman 3000F cooler but couldn't find one so got a Gelid Icy Vision instead.
As previously said the gelid fans run at full speed all the time ( 2000rpm +\- 10% )and although not very noisy it is certainly noticible. So I have fitted a Fanmate and tried various fan speeds at various settings. My Gelid fanspeed maxes out at 1800rpm quite a bit below their quoted speed and right at the limit of there tolerance. With the fanmate turned all the way down fanspeed was 1118rpm and is silent. Idle at this speed saw a temp of 27-28c bearing in mind that at full speed (1800rpm ) the idle temp was 26c, so nice to know that you can turn down the speed to the minimum and have silence and it doesn't adversely affect the temps. I was quite surprised by this so I ran a wee experiment and overclocked the 470 to 751 Core, 1502 shader, left the memory and voltage at stock and checked the idle temps which were, after a brief rise to 32c, 28c. Also played Fallout NV at the overclock settings and the temps maxxed at 39c!!, I think thats very impressive. I also ran the same test(overclocked ) with max fanspeed and idle temp was 27c, Fallout NV max 37c, everything stable. All these readings were done with Msi Afterburner, see screenshot below. What are these cards capable of on stock voltage, anyone know? Anyway hope this has helped some of you make your mind up about which cooler to go with.
