So I went for dinner at Gordon Ramsey at Claridges

I keep meaning to try the taster menu at the Fat Duck, which is only a couple of miles from me. However I'm worried that its more a 'novelty' restaurant than somewhere to enjoy good food. I've been to Heston's gastropub The Hind's Head and I must admit the service was awful there, we waited about 10 minutes to be asked what drinks we wanted, then another 10 minutes to be served.

Can I be your date when you go? I've been wanting to go there for ages! :D I promise to speak exclusively in French and behave like a snotty Frenchman all night!!! :D

You should go to Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, I've been to a few michelin star rated restaurants and the food there was just sensational. Marcus Wareing and the Fat Duck are suppose to be really good as well. As I am vegetarian Gordan Ramsey's has never really appealed and his restaurants aren't suppose to be very vegie friendly!

As for the portions just try eating them and you'll be surprised how full you get. Every time I've been the last dish and the desert has been bloody hard to eat as you get so full. You need to remember as well they give you bread as well between dishes.

Oh yeah, haute I agree with, coutre is fashion though :D

I did learn that word believe it or not :p

I completely know what you're saying, and you're not wrong at all - haute cuisine is used, but, in general, one can use "haute cuture" to mean "high brow/end" - well, certainly my family and circle of friends in France do.... :) Though I haven't lived in France for a while so maybe that's not used anymore... Maybe it's a regional or "style" thing - I've always been understood when saying that. You've got me second guessing myself, and a Frog to do that is a big deal! :D

Call me OCD but I'd want those table cloths ironing... damn creases!
That's not OCD, that's standard practice for a high-end dining establishment. Very sloppy to see they weren't ironed on the tables.

And as someone else has pointed out, little wonder they lost their star.

I am probably going to get flamed for this but the presentation of the these looks scruffy.
I'd be tempted to agree.

The John Dory dish looks like it hasn't been kept level when being carried to the table and the espuma has lost its volume.

Very amusing that you took pictures of each course. And rather chavvy.
Nothing wrong with taking photos at the table, assuming you're using a phone or compact camera, but very bad form to use flash. That's not fair on the other diners.

Royal Hospital Road has three.
Rumours have it that it will drop down to two-star status this time round. Which is a shame as Clare Smyth is a talented lady.

If you've never been, you have to go. But it does feel like its edging towards the novelty factor these days, especially with the removal of the à la carte menu.

L'Ortolan in Shinfield and The Vineyard in Stockcross are highly recommended if you want top-end dining for sensible prices.

Absolutely.

I've never been as full or as content as when I've had the pleasure of enjoying a full-on tasting menu. It's an experience in every sense of the word.

I’m surprised that they didn’t throw you out for taking photos at the table. It’s so uncouth. :p

To answer a few of the points raised, I can eat as much as the next bloke and trust me by the end of the meal I was stuffed, I wouldn't have wanted any more.
When they gave us the chocolates at the end of the meal we were told once we'd eat all of them they would fetch more out, the restaurant manager was disappointed we couldn't even finish the first lot.
Also regarding taking some photos, I did feel we needed to be discreet taking the pictures, that's why the first one had no flash. Most pictures are actually of the wife not just a close up of the plate but I've cropped them to post on here.
I wanted to take photos as I knew friends and family would be really interested.

Lysnader describing it as very amusing and chavvy for taking a few photos, honestly it makes you sound a right toffee nosed pleb.
Did you sit at your computer tittering and guffawing to yourself that I would do something so crude and crass?
Pathetic.

Food looks pretty good, those who say that 6 courses of this quality including breads and alcohol is not enough are seriously eating waaay too much!
