So I went for dinner at Gordon Ramsey at Claridges

You should go to Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, I've been to a few michelin star rated restaurants and the food there was just sensational. Marcus Wareing and the Fat Duck are suppose to be really good as well. As I am vegetarian Gordan Ramsey's has never really appealed and his restaurants aren't suppose to be very vegie friendly!

As for the portions just try eating them and you'll be surprised how full you get. Every time I've been the last dish and the desert has been bloody hard to eat as you get so full. You need to remember as well they give you bread as well between dishes.

I have eaten in a lot of Michelin starred restaurants. (Most of the time on a company credit card). Marcus Wareing's food is the best of have tasted. (I still haven't been to The Fat Duck or El Bulli though)

£204 for 2 isn't THAT bad. I had a 3 course dinner in Rome in some small place, a bottle of wine and it came to £70.

6 courses there, i think it would be worth it just to try it out.

I would love to eat at one of Gordon's restaurants, so I'm delighted to hear that you enjoyed it so. :)

I ate at Raymond Blanc's Quat'Saisons some months ago (I actually can't remember when), and it was simply unreal. The service was absolutely impeccable, you didn't feel like you were drowning in waiting staff, it was exceptionally laid back and just wonderful. Me and my ex went for the nine course tasting menu (as I was buying :o), and it was simply divine. There was one course that wasn't up to the standard of the others, but everything else was just orgasmic. I worked in a kitchen for a year and a half, producing food that was consistently showered with praise, but as I was sitting in Le Manoir eating, I couldn't help thinking about how pathetic my food was. :p :D

For two people that weren't drinking alcohol, it came to £272 which felt like an absolute bargain. And before you call me a cheapskate for not buying any wine, I left a monstrous tip. ;)

Nothing wrong with taking photos at the table, assuming you're using a phone or compact camera, but very bad form to use flash. That's not fair on the other diners.

True. OP's pics [bar the first] were taken with flash enabled. Hence chav factor = high.

I take photos of food at the table a LOT, but never use flash, ever.

Not because it irritates others, I know it does, but because on camera flash is just rubbish, the food never look as good as it looks in person when you use the flash pointing at the food.

But i would never pull out a DSLR at a night out like that though. I am there to enjoy the food, not take pictures. But I would probably sneak a pic from the phone though.

I never use flash either, mine is permanently disabled. It's quite clear that the OP has used flash though.

By the way I love the first shot above, mostly the juice from the lime.

I think that's a perfectly fair assessment.

What do you sound like, so you can't take a photo in a restaurant?

A perfectly fair assessment, my god you wasn't even there.
Look at the look of horror on the other diners faces when I took this photo, you can see them thinking how uncouth.

It did get a bit busier later but most tables were empty due to cancellations with the weather, we were sat against a wall so I discreetly took them facing the wall, I'm sure no other diners were upset.
I tried it without the flash as you can see from the first picture but it was terrible.
It was just a few photos to remember the night, nothing else.

They forgot to cook your loin and lamb and who sicked up on your John Dory?

I hope you checked the foie gras was a product of natural feeding and not via gavage. If you didn't check, you disgust me.

Some people like meat not shoe leather. Just nicely done, tender, succulent and tasty. Too many people over cook meat and it's always disgusting! It's like having unintentional carrot mash because someones boiled the carrots for half an hour.:/

I love how they say "puffed rice" when I bet they have a mountain of toys from the boxes of rice crispies out the back.

I thought they were maggots before I read the descripion... :o

As for the photo taking, I would have been cringing badly at the person doing it. :p

Good lord, how sodding pretentious are some of you lot?! Mind you, it shouldn't surprise me really.

Taking photographs in a posh restaurant = chav?? Get the **** over yourself.

I wouldn't let it annoy you, there are snobbish, pretentious prats everywhere. What some people don't seem to grasp is that for many, meals like in the OP are a super-luxury, an event in itself that they want to remember... hence the photos.

A bit of humility now and then never hurt anyone.

So yah,me an Rupert were at Claridges and this guy was taking photos, how uncouth yah

The food and service was flawless when I visited. Although I don't remember creased table cloths nor mediocre presentation. I'm glad you enjoyed it though ;)

I wouldn't mind trying one of his steak houses next time! :D

can't have been that posh, they had no lights at the beginning.

do the waiters swear a lot?
