*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

It seemed to do it on any site, clean forums, youtube, forums with embedded youtube clips, simple old Google. A fair few people had the same problem with the betas too.

It was a deal breaker for me, especially since it required a restart.

I am not having any luck with ROMs lately. :(

Whilst im enjoying Oxygen compared to RCMixHD, im finding lots of little bugs:
  • Notification LEDs sometimes stop working, requiring a restart.
  • Bluetooth file transfers dont work, at all. Same bug as in OD.
  • The keyboard doesnt select the correct keyboard in all apps, for example, in BT pairing, it should be the number only keyboard, instead its the full one.

TBH, im getting a bit fed up of all this, since ive rooted and started using different ROMs, ive had nothing but problems! Either bad battery life, features not working, crashes, etc;
Its starting to annoy me, im close to just selling my Desire and going back to Apple!!!

That's because you're trying ROMs which are not supposed to be on the Desire:

  • Oxygen, OpenDesire, DeFrost and all ASOP builds are running by getting the stock Android Google Kernel compiled to support the Desire hardware.
  • RCMixHD - Desire Kernel with DesireHD ROM/Framework

What's your aim for wanting a custom ROM? For me it's only for AP2SD+ and better battery life.

That's why I only use Teppic74's ROM, although I'm now using my own ROM which is a completely stock ROM with some of the default applications I don't use removed.

Like Teppic's, it sticks as close to stock as possible.

There's too many "Frankenroms" on XDA, where people are just replacing framework/library files from other ROMs without really knowing the implications.

Whilst there's loads of talented guys on XDA, there's a reason HTC do not include some of the hacks that XDA include.

By teppic's rom do you mean:

Im a little fed up of stock HTC Sence, too many things bug me about it. I quite like what's been done with Zeam in Oxygen, and i really like the new version of Sense on the HD ROMs.
But its just starting to annoy me thats whats working on one ROM is broke on another, and visa-versa.
Honestly, if Oxygen had this BT thing fixed, i'd be over the moon, but as is, its annoying!

Yep, that's the ROM I'm on about.

What annoys you about Sense? I really don't like the HD ROM, HTC have basically made their ROM a cash cow and forgotten about usability.

Clearly they have an agreement with the makers of SoundHound to install their 5 tag trial application to /system. For someone without root, this means you can't uninstall it.

Route66 Navigation - again, another cash cow providing a link to get "Premium Navigation".

Metal and Wood skins look like they've been designed by an amateur graphics designer, which is crap considering how good Sense looks already.

They've added too many menus to the ROM too, if I want to personalise my ROM I'll go to the settings. When I long press the home screen to add either a widget or application shortcut - I want to do just that. HTC have added every other option under the moon to the menu.

The new notification bar doesn't make any sense to show the most recent applications because it shows you 4x1 recent applications and you have to fling through them to see the rest.

If you hold down home, you see 4x2 - twice as many without needing to fling. So tell me what's the purpose of the notification bar method?

New Sense is absolutely horrible, if they release a ROM with bug fixes that I want and it includes the new Sense then I'll be going back to an iPhone. I'm not having my ROM's full of trial ware, I've already bought their handset for £400.00 SIM free.

How does BT not work? As in what functions? I sent a file to and from my Oxygen Desire to my dad's Modaco (2.2) Desire both via ES File Explorer and Gallery 3D on to his using stock gallery/bluetooth and both sent/received just fine:

Make sure your radio build is the recommended one just to be safe.

Not had any keyboard issues either although I do use HTC_IME_Mod.

Looking for a simple answer really for this question, so here goes.

Is there any reason I should root/unlock/flash my T-Mobile Desire? Am I missing something fantastic?

The reason ask is I know there a some apps that only work on rooted phones and and that custom ROM's offer some different features, but what makes them a 'must' have?

I am trying to convince myself it's worth doing but I only use the phone for Calling/Texting/E-mail(4 accounts) Train times, IMDB for cinema stuff, Maps but no car navigation and the odds bit of web browsing and I use the radio and the audio playback for music too.

So tell me is it worth the time and effort, or should I just stick to the default setup? Oh I have an SLCD Desire and I get around 40-68 hours use between charges depending on voice calls made and received, I don't want that to get any lower.

Thanks in advance for the help/answers. :)

Most people, me included, originally rooted and flashed a custom rom to have apps2sd.

Now I'm constantly jumping between custom roms looking for other tweaks and stuff :p

what in this update when then? 2.29xxxx ?

not run 'check for updates' for weeks

Unfortunately HTC don't really release change logs as such, but they sometimes list a few minor details in the OTA update acceptance window.

Does it list anything?

I've been running 2.29 for about 3+ weeks now as the RUU of it has been on-line for quite a while. There's a new radio and kernel and I found this ROM/Radio combination has the best battery life.

Could you let me know which Kernel version it installs? (by going to Settings -> About Phone -> Software information).

Thanks
Mark

Today, HTC’s popular Desire device has received a firmware update to version v2.29.405.2. It’s yet unclear in which regions the update is available, but the new firmware release is assumed to be downloadable for most unlocked HTC Desires.

Head to Settings > About phone > System software updates on your phone and tap the ‘Check now’ button to see if you’re eligible for the upgrade. It’s a 28.87MB download, and you need at least 25MB of free internal storage before installing the update, or your device will complain and refuse to install it until the adequate amount of space is available.

HTC hasn’t provided a changelog yet, but this post will be updated once we know what’s new. According to comments on other sites and forums, the update is most likely a maintenance release. Have any HTC Desire owners discovered

edit...... did the new update and now just have white screen :(

File transfers in either direction keep canceling themselves between the phone and my PC.
Although it now seems to be happening with RCMixHD...

Im just flashing the latest one in now to check (was running an older one for battery life reasons. :-p )
I'll test again.

On a different note, RCMixHD w/ A2SD rarther than D2SD is running very nicely now. Just BT and its near perfect!

##EDIT##
Latest radio, same issue. :(

##EDIT2##
How very odd, tried it with the built in BT app rather than Astros, and it works...

Im wondering if someone could help me out. Im using Defrost and I installed the blufrost theme via the Defrost setup. Not really liking it and I want to go back to the original theme that came with defrost. Can someone please direct me on how to do this?

Just a bit :p

extinct just reflash the ROM over the current one, that will restore the files the theme replaces. Don't do a wipe or anything.

You should always have an up to date Nandroid :p

Question

I really like the sense clock/weather app, installing launcher pro obviously gets rid of that, i did find one previously that worked almost the same (looked identical) but ill be damned if i can find it again, any ideas?
