Nice moment today...ATM related

The banks and cash management industries call them ATMs.

Yes they may well do, but it's use was unheard of in everyday English until fairly recently. 15-20 years ago if you said ATM to me I wouldn't even know what you were talking about. Were you even in the UK back then?

It really doesn't matter.

Happened to me, my phone rang as the cash was coming out and i completely forgot to take it. I walked away. I could hear someone behind me saying " excuse me, hey, you,oi" etc for about 15 seconds. Eventually i had to look who was trying to get who's attention and it was a nice lady waving 30 quid at me.

I felt like a complete pillock :)

I'd have been putting that £200 towards my 6970 pre-order!

Never done the ATM thing but left my season ticket train pass on the train a month or so back with 2 bank cards and £20 in it (I don't carry a wallet, maybe I should....). Within an hour I had a text message from some kind person saying they had my pass and would leave it at a station for me.

Had a simular thing happen about a year ago where the lady in front at the cash machine walked off and forgot all about taking the cash and as I got to the machine their was £150 sitting there, I quickly grabbed it and returned it to her and she couldn't stop thanking me for what I did.

I wasn't replying to you, I was joining in an ongoing conversation in your self indulgent "I'm such a nice person, I didn't steal something while someone was stood behind watching" thread. :D

Come off it. If you really thought my state of mind was, "Oh my God, lotsa money - I can have it!! No wait.... someone'll see me... better not. Crap, I have to give it back" you're only projecting your own likely thought pattern onto the situation. I didn't expect this thread to run to three pages, it was a throwaway post made last night. And yes, I'm glad for it. I'd hate to think that those people could have had their holiday ruined by the situation.

In b4 Jesus pic, though it's well deserved.

I was standing at a cash machine today when I noticed the guys in front get bored of waiting [it wasn't that long] and then walk off. They were clearly foreign, I think Scandinavian, and probably thought the machine was broken so they left. As they walked off down the road it spat out their cash. A fat wadge of it. I snatched it out the machine and ran after them to give it back, turned out it was £200 in total, which I could easily have walked off with. They were understandably very relieved and thankful, and one of the guys in the queue even shook my hand when I came back. Good moment, made me wonder whether anyone would have actually had the indecency to talk off with it.

Erm yes. End of story. But it made me feel good.

/Big Hug :)

So, hypothetically, you find a carrier bag with some cash in it. How much would it take before you kept it versus handing it in to the police?

I found a tenner on the floor in the pub the other day and handed it in behind the bar. A tenner isn't a life changing amount of cash but a bag full of money...name your price!

Good on you, I had something similar last year - a woman left the ATM and dropped £50 as she was in a rush, I picked it up called after her she turned around, snatched it out of my hand and walked off without so much of a thankyou. Probablly the same kind of person that doesn't say thankyou when you hold the door open for them lol.

A few years back I was the proud owner of an MDA Vario II smartphone. It was stolen from my friends house as I was attending a house party. I was devastated and blocked the phone and forgot about it. 4 months later I had a phone call from a lady who had found the phone while taking her dog for a walk. She got my number from the lock screen where it listed my name and number. I rewarded her with card, flowers and a voucher for John Lewis! I played the karma god but not many people would do that.
