Hey all, well I've been very ill over the past few days and just remembered that my MOT is tomorrow. My car has been checked by a mechanic etc. and work was done to ensure that my car should be fine for passing the MOT but, my car needs washed and vacuumed and also, I'm not sure if underneath it is dirty (most likely).

The MOT is tomorrow at 17:40 and I finish work at 5pm but was thinking of just talking the car to a garage at lunch and putting it through the car wash and also hoover it if the garage has one. I'm worried that I will fail my MOT as underneath my car could be dirty (first MOT so quite nervous). My brother said that he's never got an MOT wash done on his car so I should be fine but I was wondering what your experiences are? Thanks.

LOL

Make sure you dust the interior as well. I also heard that if you have a crease in your leather it's an insta-fail.

Leave them a Big Green Triangle from a box of Quality Street on the passenger seat.

Guaranteed pass then.

Yeah, If it's too dirty under there you will fail I'm afraid. I'd not test it anyway, Didn't get into the mechanic game expecting my hands to get dirty.

Take a half day at work and wash under the car before the test if I was you...

You can fail an MOT for having a dirty car?

News to me.

It cant fail but the tester can refuse to test it. If it was such as a farm vehicle covered in mud. If its just normal road crud from the time of year i wouldn't worry. It has to be really soiled for it not to be tested.

A powerwash underneath isn't often required but if it is dirty, you'll be guaranteed they won't go out of their way to clean it up for inspection - thinking in particular the likes of brake pipes in and round the wheels arches were snow cakes up.

Sometimes I really do despair...
OP - Your car will not fail its MOT for being dirty.:)

The OP is from NI, were you have to under the car washed before the MOT, or they will refuse to do if its really meaning it fails.

I really do despair when people don't know what they are talking about.

I had my MOT today. Car looked like an igloo and screen wash was frozen up. Had it sat idling for ages hoping it was going to thaw out in time. It did thankfully. Passed fine.

Refusing is different to a fail. But i didnt look at where he was from. Is the test any different in NI?

I don't know what worries me more. The car failing its MOT ( it usually does with me ) or having to use my OH's Merc A class for work tomorrow .....

I'm sure the tester will look at your dirty car and then look outside and think.. nah it's passed, then walk back over to the heater :p
