*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

AdamG has promised us a "killer" update to Oxygen tonight. Some reckon it's Gingerbread guts, I reckon (read: hope) it's the lockscreen CRT animation!

Good times :)

Who's that with?

I had the same problem and the guy was a right arse and wouldn't refund me, it was the company Khaan suggested in the Android rooting guide.

Made a dispute through paypal in the end and got my money back.

e-unlocks on eBay. Who did you have trouble with?

Cool, i'm in and partitioning my SD. Do I now need to reboot into Android and copy the ROM over, then back into AmonRA to flash?

rom manager does it via scripting, uses clockword to boot into recovery. amonra does it all within recovery.

No need for ADB either :) Just hold vol down+power hen turning on and choose recovery using the volume and power keys after 10 seconds.

Whilst there's tools out there that do not require the use of ADB, it's recommended to be verse in ADB Shell because essentially, that's all these custom ROMs are doing. Calling busybox parts via shell.

If something goes wrong, there's every chance the recommended way to fix will be by using ADB, for example - The Desire owners who were "usb bricked" from the original root process.

Ok, seen as you guys use it ill change. Got the link AmonRA, downloaded recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.0.img...

Now what?

You can do it via fastboot if you have S-OFF and have the Android-sdk/tools folder in your Windows Path.

Or by running your command prompt from the tools folder.

Or you can use UnrEVOked again to flash the new recovery, there's an option to point to a .img file, in the top left hand corner of the UnrEVOked program.

Set that to point to the AmonRA image, before connecting the phone via USB.

This is the part where you do require adb but be sure to be S-OFF.

Volume down + power on with usb connected after putting the img file in the root of the tools folder in the android sdk folder.

Open a command promt at the tools folder and type

fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.0.img

This will flash the recovery image while the phone is in fastboot mode. Should take no time at all.

You don't have to boot your phone up to copy the ROM file to the SD Card, there's an option in recovery called "enable USB-MS" which will mount your SDCard to your computer when you're connected via USB.

You can then drag 'n' drop the ROM file to your SDCard.

Only if there is a recommended radio that the ROM dev recommends for the ROm you're installing. It's worth installing the latest radio anyway though unelss otherwise advised by the rom developer.

Flash radios via fastboot (ideally) although via AmonRA recovery it's fine too if you have the zip file.

DeFrost is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=690477

Omg bricked!!!

Jokes :p

Just reboot normally, press menu for Recovery menu (possibly power instead of menu depending on version).

Or, pull battery.

Oh lord, I just flashed my old Tytn II with Froyo. Going to give it my sister to use ha.

Impressed it went on and runs smooth actually. :D

On a more on topic note, when do we think AdamG will release this "killer" update? :)

I'm happy with my flashing (oh er!) for today. But if I decide to go for a different ROM do I need to wipe each time? I guess you guys who swap ROMs all the time wont be happy reinstalling all your apps/settings each time?

It depends on which ROM you've come from and which ROM you're going to.

If a ROM is based on a HTC ROM release, and you're flashing to another ROM based on a HTC release - you'll probably be ok.

If you're going from a HTC release to an AOSP build like DeFrost - then you'll need to wipe.

Personally though, I always wipe but backup all my settings with Titanium Backup before hand but even then - that can cause issue if you're changing to a completely different type of ROM.

@Merkel

Thanks for that. I have Titanium Backup Pro but I've yet to test a restore! When I backup I go to Schedules > Backup all new apps and newer versions. Does that do everything? Including Bookmarks, home screen layouts, notification settings, wifi settings etc?

EDIT: Just found The batch operation for Backup All USer Apps + System Data... will that do it?
