Hi guys, as the title, I have a OCZ Vertex 2E 120GB SSD.

I have just ran a Windows Experience Index rating test, and my disk data transfer rating is only 7.2, when the reviews on this SSD state they are getting 7.9 etc.

I'm just wondering how I should go about speeding my SSD up? I'm currently running in in ACHI, and it has the latest firmware.

I have it connected to a standard 3.0 Gb/s SATA port, as I read somewhere that the Marvell 6.0 Gb/s SATA controller is no good? Would this make a difference with my SSD?

Just a thought, I also have a SATA HDD connected also, could this be the cause of my low the data transfer rate? As the speeds would be combined to generate my rating?

Cheers
Adam

Download ATTO benchmark tool and see how your SSD performs, mine from my laptop below:

I tend to ignore the Windows Benchmark tool!

As RJC says ignore WEI score mine shows 7.7 for my drive, so still lower then some. Can depend really on what controller, other tiny little things aswell, no 2 systems will score the same.

Test with ATTO like RJC said, and that way u can compare better.

Here is my 60Gb version, from your speeds im guessing you are either on an amd mobo, or a lower intel chipset (ICH7/8/9)

The below was on a ICH10R chipset.

My motherboard is a P6X58D-E

Any suggestions on how to sort this out?

Could it be that im using a SATA 6Gbp/s cable, but using a SATA 3Gbp/s port? Or does the cable not make any difference?

Cheers

Ok so the exact same mobo as me then.

So u should all being well be around my speeds. Ok things to check, was the sata mode when u installed the drive set to AHCI, or IDE.

And also are you using the standard microsoft drivers or the intel ones?

When I first installed the drive, the storage configuration in BIOS was set to IDE.

I changed this to ACHI, then installed Windows 7 x64.

Which port are you using on your motherboard bifday2k? Also, have you got S.M.A.R.T monitoring disabled in BIOS etc?

Cheers

Mines on port 0, and my mechanical is on port 1, as far as im aware without rebooting to check (but can if its needed).

Smart is turned on, as i can't ever remember turning it off at all, but i can double check that if needed though.

So AHCI is set so thats not the problem, mmm maybe giving Intels drivers a go may aid it abit.

Just find the latest for the OS you are using. And install and reboot.

Ok I will try that now, cheers.

I just uploaded a shot of which driver is currently installed. I'm pretty sure this is the correct controller (4 port)

Just to note, I didn't pre-install any drivers during Windows setup... did you?

In my experience and what I've learned from reading, with an X58 motherboard you need:

- AHCI
- SSD on port 0
- Intel RST drivers (series 9 for now, series 10 when it finally appears on Intel's website cos it supposedly fixes the "BSOD when resuming from S3 sleep" bug)
- Secure erase before installing Windows 7 to the raw space

If you have all that and your benchmarks are still dodgy, it could be some conflicting driver somewhere perhaps.

Well not so much drivers, more user mistake, but we have all done it in the past i know i certainly have.

Ahci was set, but defaults loaded, which meant ide mode was set by accident, so thats why the speeds are low as Win 7 was installed with the drive in ide mode.

No biggy really CK is gonna do a clean install now he knows what happened, i have also given him the latest IRST drivers (not ver 10) so he should be good to go shortly.

Simple but easy mistake to make.

Why would you have him waste his time doing a clean install when he can just change 1 setting in the registry?

Sorted! :D

Just going to read a few tweaking guides now to make some improvements!

It was CK's choice to do a clean install, as there was nothing installed as such apart from the OS.

Also the registry hack doesn't always work, i know for me that hack has always been a pain the the ***.

Either way the main point is that CK knew what happened, knew how to fix it, went ahead and did so, and is now up and running again with no issues.

I hope it's not too easy to make as I'm doing my build today with my first ever SSD.

Don't worry, just double/triple check sata mode is in AHCI, before installing windows.
