The GiffGaff Mobile Network

Looks like they have stopped the £30 goodybags? :(

yes at it was getting constant abuse.

Some ppl managed over 7hoirs per day on the phone with the package, and since giffgaff don't want to use FUP, they pulled it rather then break their own no FUP policy.

I'm not sure I completely understand how this works.

I'm currently on O2 pay as you go, and when I top up £10 a month I get 300 UK texts and 500MB UK data for a month. When that month is over, I still have whatever balance is left over from that £10.

If I bought a £10 "goodybag" from Giffgaff, would I still have £10 credit/balance left over on my phone (providing I hadn't spent it) after the goodybag had expired? If not, I can't see how this is a better deal.

You buy the goody bag, you spend £10. The money is gone.

With the £10 goody bag you get free txt, free internet and 250 voice mins. How much would 250mins cost you on O2?

EDIT: Just did the maths (hopefully I understood the tariff correctly).

The cheapest way you could get 250mins would be to use them all in one go (3 mins @ £0.25) + (247 mins @ £0.05) = £13.10

The most expensive way would be split evenly across the month (90 mins @ £0.25) + (160 mins @ £0.05) = £30.50

I was going to send out for my GiffGaff SIM just now, but spotted the Payback system. Does someone want to send me a SIM as a 'Friend' and get a nice pre-xmas pressy of 500 points? :). Give me a email in trust with what details you need and I'll reply when I get home tonight.

Anyone? Will order one later if no one is interested.

I just used orangeman2003's link to order a SIM, enjoy your freebies dude! :)

The next person who wants a SIM might want to use someone else's so we spread the goodness around! :p

How happy are you all with this network? I just cancelled a T-Mobile contract so I'm looking for a new home, giffgaff is a strong contender (although it'd work out a little more expensive for me as I'd have to buy an unlocked phone separately)

I don't know. I'm guessing the normal automated methods such as deep packet scanning wouldn't help here, because if you were looking at HTTP pages on your laptop using the phone as a modem deep packet scanning would still just show them you're looking at HTTP pages. But I'm sure there's a way.

T-Mobile also banned it (unless you've got their Web&Walk plans), so presumably they'd only bother enforcing it if you used a lot.

great stuff m8 thanks, u enjoy the free £5 credit also :)

Im happy, had a teething trouble with the missus porting number but it was over xmas so no big deal in the end. Giffgaff + a orange san fran = <3

Giffgaff would be ideal for me but as they don't support tethering its a no go :(

people still use tethering on it m8, its obvious when u read the forums!

I don't really have any issues with giffgaff, I've been with them since the start pretty much.

I'm also posting my link in case anyone wants to order a sim card and get £5 extra credit.

Looks like an interesting company. Would you guys say it is a better deal that the Tesco one?

Well they both run on the O2 network and if you're comparing GiffGaff to Tesco's Sim only tariffs then it's only better if you're a heavy data user otherwise it's pretty much like for like (with the exception of Tesco's £30 unlimited tariff).
Other than that GiffGaff offer free 0800 numbers, free GiffGaff to GiffGaff calls and a rewards scheme called Payback whereby you get points for being actively involved in the online community. For example, offering a solution to someone’s problem in the forum and receiving 'kudos' will get you payback points. And every 6 months these points can be taken as cash or credit.

I've been with them for 3/4 months (primarily for the unlimited data) or so and apart from a major network outage back in September, I haven't had any other issues.

Well ive been using T-Mobile for tethering for months and no issues, how would they even know ?

It's actually really easy to spot (this is obviously changable before you mention it) with browerID / user agent detection. I wouldn't worry too much about this for now unless you're some handcore bandwidth demon.

I'm currently with O2 but signed up to Giffgaff yesterday.

I have good 3G HSPDA coverage in my area so Giffgaff should be ideal.

Not to step on anyone's toes, but if anyone wants a sim ordering, I'm happy to help.

email in trust.

Not sure anyone has mentioned this yet, but you can cue up goodybags to you only have to visit the site and top-up once ever 2 months. It seems they plan to develop an automatic solution from April.
