330d vs 335d

0-100 in around 14 seconds doesn't sound too far fetched if the 280bhp and 400+ lb/ft figures mentioned earlier are his.

Not a fan of Diesels but I have to say I was really impressed by the BMW lumps (530d in my case). Good performance, great economy and most impressively it sounded like a car as opposed to a 1989 Ford Transit van.

How on earth did you get that to go that fast?

Started out as a (supposedly) 170bhp Audi TT TDI. DPF delete, power pulley, custom exhaust, remap, bigger I/C, Water/Methanol injection. It's now doing (approx.) 260bhp depending on whose rollers it's on. The next step is a bigger hybrid turbo and new injectors.

And some weight savings. I'm currently having a moral crisis as to whether I can justify a carbon-fibre bonnet, front wings, front bumper and tailgate or not.

It would be faster but it's quattro so you need to get it rolling to pick up speed. It's about as fast as a TTS, possibly a fraction faster in some gears.

**** me good on ya mate :)

Are we going for the "You should have bought a TTRS in the first place" angle? :p

I'm just curious if it actually makes sense. The whole point of buying a diesel is cost, if fuel was free they probably wouldn't exist. So if it's now doing 20mpg and he spent 10k doing it, it would be a total pointless venture

What fuel economy is it giving now? How much have you spent on it?

It still gives 45-50MPG if you drive it between 1800 and 2500rpm, but if you boot it it's in the low 30's.

I'd hate to say how much I've spent, but it's significant.

I should have bought a TTS (DOH!) but I like diesels and I got a very good deal on it.

No, a TTRS is a whole other league altogether. A TTS is more the equivalent. The problem is you tend to get sucked in. When the man from JabbaSport phones up a fool and his money are very soon parted!

You say that like it's a bad thing! :p

Among high-mileage drivers there are two yardsticks by which you can be measured - average MPG and legroom in the back. I don't really understand the latter but reppy-type people discussing cars always go on about MPG and how much room there is in the back.

35MPG is shocking and there is no legroom in the back of a TT. So I took the seats out:D

Sadly MPG seems to be the new car yardstick amongst more people than just reps :(.

35MPG with your foot down and that sort of performance is properly impressive though. My car makes roughly the same amount of power and I get single digits with my foot in the carpet.

I've got datalogger read-outs showing my tweaked 2.0TDI doing 0-100 in 13.6 seconds. Maybe not a cannon, but more of a magnum than a peashooter.:)

And I'd love to take you up on your offer, you can have a ride in mine too. Hopefully you'll be surprised. I doubt you'd be impressed, but I'll acceopt surprised! What are you running these days?

That's quick to be fair and having run against Jule's from PH's 335D chipped car at VMax I do know how quick they can go when breathed on. My RS4 is running well now, running a new Audi map and it seems much sharper but reality is it probably isn't that much quicker. Anyone is welcome to come out in any of my cars, they just have to find me :D
