ok question time!!

I've an unrooted stock sim free HTC Desire! Last few days i've been getting a low space warning and it just keeps getting lower and lower. I was going to root it so i can use apps2sd.

I've already moved everything that will move to the sd card and uninstalled stuff but warning still there. It's around 9mb left now :(

so,
1. Will rooting with unrevoked 3 wipe the phone?
2. I can still root and keep the stock Froyo with sense yeah?
3. Will i be able to use apps2sd or is that part of a custom rom and i'll HAVE to flash a custom rom?
4.Will I still get offical OTA updates?

I've backed up my SD so ready to format it with an ext2 partition.

Perfectly happy with the phone apart from lack of internal memory so can i use Apps2sd without flashing a custom rom? that's basically what i'm trying to ask :o

How are you moving stuff to sdcard?

If your happy with the phone just ota update to 2.2 then you will have froyo app2sd, likely not all you apps will install to sd but the newer ones should and all will as time goes on id imagine

you wont get ota once rooted afaik

I'm on 2.2 and using the froyo apps2sd but even after moving everything I could I still don't have enough room.

Uninstalled rockplayer which I moved to the sd card, and it freed up over 12mb on my internal memory  have 22mb free now and warning is gone...even though it had been moved to the sd. Strange OS.

after googling toggling wifi sorts it :) strange

ah

im currently using reflexTSence HD 1.5 and liking it :) sure maybe its not quite as quick as a aosp rom but the eye candy more than makes up for it for me, i will try oxygen again when they get the camcorder working until then not for me

Ok guys I am having big problems. My Desire has slowed a to a crawl with text messaging so I've set about trying to delete my text messages to free up memory.

Trouble is I have one 'thread' which has almsot 5000 messages in it. When I go to delete this conversation, the phone faffs around for ages before eventually the messaging application crashes. I can find no way around this problem, it simply wont let me delete them.

Why do these phones allow you to store so many texts if they are going to fall apart once you do? Surely I cannot be the only one who simply doesnt bother deleting texts, especially with conversation views?

I dont think ive sent 5000 texts since I got my first phone about 15 years ago :D ok maybe I have but thats an awful lot of text's my wife doesnt even send that much!

How much free space do you have? I recall you mentioned this a while ago and it was suggested that you rooted and installed a custom rom im presuming you havent done that yet?

So that's what you do when you're not on here then. :D
What about just Security swiping it back to Factory ? To drastic ?

What network? I've actually never heard of anyone (yet) who has had an issue with warranty with a rooted device and I doubt networks/manufacturers even check for this if you send the phone in for repair due to a busted screen or whatever.

Look at how many people here have rooted, some have even had replacements too.

MyPhone explorer may be the solution anyway.

Or

Run SMS Backup which backs up messages to a Gmail label then wipe the messaging app storage + data via android's application manager. This way your messages are backed up in Gmail and you can start fresh with the messaging app.

No need to backup every few hours, just get it to sync over whenever a new message is sent or received!

Flashed Oxygen rc2 and things are looking good. Hate changing ROMs though! A pain getting the phone back how I like it! Lol. Hopefully Adam will keep Oxygen as the slickest, quickest ROM in the West!

It automatically does sent and received the moment they happen,. I'm using the non + version.
