UK government proposes to block all Internet porn as standard

Just to complicate this further... it's in nobody's best interest to block porn.

Guys don't stop jacking off just because they get married or have kids. (that's right your husband still jacks off)

It's scientifically proven that guys change mentally if they haven't jizzed in a while. So those who are married are already living on the edge!

You take away internet porn (using magic) and you create this scenario:

Random bint> Hi, BT Broadband helpdesk, how can I help?
You> Wife n kid are out, really need a ****

Also, you encourage guys to find alternative sources - magazines, dvds, w/e - all of which will get left around the house for a kid to find.

When I was younger there was plenty of porn to be found just laying around on the ground! You couldn't take a walk over the fields without tripping over mountains of the stuff.

The idea is preposterous, there are a million websites out there which have "extreme porn" and are easily accessible with google search, if they can't even block that, god knows how they plan to block the other 99% of porn websites.

Every few months we hear the government come out with a new reason for wanting to help their corporate interests have an advantage on the internet.

This is realy just a way for government to start regulating the internet in a way that benefits the corporate interests that want to see the internet more regulated. To one, prevent any new internet start ups, like youtube, google etc, from starting up and making billions etc. and two so they can block websites that are not in the interest of the government or the coprorate interests that are behind the regulation in the first place.

Basically just another attempt to regulate the internet. They want to remove the whole user driven aspect of the internet and make it more of a top down service delivery. They hate the fact that anyone can make a website and become a billionaire and they hate the fact that you can say what ever you want on the internet.

Just wait until they have the BBC internet and you are forced to pay for it. Then they come around and search your house for computers and make sure you are not using the internet. If you are and don't pay the bbc they will fine you £1000 or they will break your legs.

I am sure British Culture Minister Ed Vaizey's lies in bed at night stressing about all the children accessing porn on the internet. Do it for the children ?

Didn't another country try this and it failed miserably? You do not take the porn of the internet people. It makes them angry

Just to get this lame thread locked.

Some porn has Muslims in and is therefore untouchable.

What's lame about it? You seem to be having fun here. Most of the comments have been perfectly valid.

My take is that the government wants an opt-in on pornographic websites only. Or at least those which describe themselves as such. It makes no difference other than to ignorant housewives with no knowledge of the Internet who'll think the Tories are doing good. That's about it.

And I'm sure [or I hope] Ed Vaizey knows that.

"Children are becoming addicted in their teens to internet pornography," she said. "They are being mentally damaged so they cannot engage in intimate relationships."

Tbh that's doesn't sound as far fetched as it reads, the attitude that people on here and a lot of other forums I have seen is pretty disgraceful at best, it may be in jest but it's coming from somewhere.

But it's just tosh. One minute they are saying 'ohh teenage pregnancies TERRIBLE'. Next they are saying that oh teenage relationships should be encouraged and taking away porn will do this. It's not about the porn, it's about damn right censorship as many others have said as have the UK ISP's.

The problem is upbringing, and parents ensuring their child is as developed emotionally as they are physically. Nothing to do with whether they caught some DVDA on Google.

Can't really see the problem. They're not saying porn will be banned, only that you have to notify someone that you don't wish yours to be restricted. Doubt it'll be completely effective but it should help the huge amount of parents who are obviously incapable of giving appropriate access to the internet to their children.

except they're all going to go "yep we want the porn ahh crap now we actually have to watch what our child does".

The ISPs are far from whiter than White here. They're already desperate to get the ability to charge for traffic across their network so they can milk big content providers.

Blocking of so called pornography websites would be a very good way for them to get the ability to block or severely throttle content providers that haven't paid the tithe.

"Sure Mr Government. We will agree to block pornography if you just give us the right to charge people for using our network"

The UK is heading towards being a joke for Internet. In Finland access to the Internet is a Human Right and in Chile it is law that carriers must treat all traffic equally (I.e net neutrality is law)

Here in the UK we have crappy speeds, crappy service, long contracts, traffic shaping, and a Government that thinks letting the main players sort it out will work.

Look what happened to the energy companies. That worked, didn't it?:rolleyes:

Well, when you ask your ISP to have yours derestricted, you are then taking responsibility for it.. I'd imagine the ISP would then advise people to install some parental controls. Hopefully.

So exactly like they do now then?
Nothing has changed except everyone else is inconvenienced so you can pretend to be doing something?
