Steam christmas sale 2010... *twitch*

Been looking at the Epic Pack for £8, all the Unreal Games, never played Unreal is it worth a play as a fan of FPS?

Unreal is a great game back in the day on my 3dfx card ( glide) it made my draw drop it was so beautiful. Good story and a whole lot better than unreal 2 which was ok but seemed to have been dumbed down to me.

I actually liked unreal DM as well.

to me the pinnacle of ut was ut2003 then the added vehicular stuff just spoiled it for me.

To whoever bought Cities XL 2011, could you sum up for an old Simcity fan why it's as good, or better or worse?

Thanks!

HL1 wasn't influential. It was the pinnacle. Nothing has yet come close to surpassing it. Not even HL2. I'm replaying HL1 right now and the story and levels just flow with a kind of magic. It is so refeshing to play a real game again after this ****storm of modern warfare shooters.

Personally, I don't think it's even worth 75p. Absolutely dreadful game.

Have to mirror this ..

Got it on the Xbox on my rentals service. Trailer made the game look ace. nice graphics, good gameplay but in reality it was dreadful.

But no matter how much you polish a turd, its still a trud.

Bought the Quake pack. Quake 2 crashes on loadup. Not impressed. Surely Steam games should just work?

Same issue ive had with it for months.

You'll find software mode works. OpenGL wont.

Unless there's an updated rendered for Q2 in win7, you might be out of luck, I aint got it working yet.

Sucks :(

There is some truth in what you say, and in reading it, the part where you said games don't do that now, I can't help but think that all the thousands of people that hailed quake and doom gameplay, will be turning their noses up and poo-pooing the incoming 'Bulletstorm' game (myself included). However, at the core, it is infact a very similar game to those of old, killing things for the sake of killing, racking up points for kills, killing in various ways and being told your score for kills at the end of the level etc.

Still think it looks poop though :p
I think its more as gamers we have evolved - GT5 is a good example where the devs just havent moved with the times or moreso havent realised that gamers expectations have...

I watched my brother play GT5 and tbh I didn't see much difference graphics-wise between GT5 and GT4 although GT5 looked slightly better. I was expecting more but may be the devs are limited by PS3 hardware:(.

At points its substantially better - near real life when you are taking photos and the like, but then there are so many caveats and buts to consider it becomes annoying - still not out of my PS3 drive though...

PS3 hardware feels awful. I bought into the hype and got my fingers burnt. The gfx are rubbish, exactly like xbox360. These consoles are supposed to play in hd but my 42" plasma was wasted on them. Its made for little johnny and his 26" samsung £300 telly. PC gamers bit (piracy and ludicroius upgrade requirements) the hand that fed them and are now paying the price in terms of limited exclusive releases. It might get better but depends on a lot of things happening and xbox360 starting to really age and fast.

So is it worth buying games, that were already in the sale(twice), or wait just in case they pop up again? I now have money and have a need to spend it.

OK so you have a need to spend money but do you have a need to play said games? I'd only ever buy games when they're on sale. So wait. And if not this sale, a weekend sale in the future.
