CPU overheating/brand new preinstalled pc from ocuk again not working

OcUK wouldn't cheap out on the paste. It wouldn't make sense for them to do it.

Most likely is it got moved in transport.

Attaching a heatsink as you've found out isn't incredibly difficult. 60 isn't a good idle temp though it isn't a terrible one.

What is important is if the machine is stable, and if it's a decent load temperature, idle temp is just a vague indication.

You should speak to OcUK support and ask them what to do. In my opinion it's fine for you to use the PC for now.

If its idling at 60 then i doubt its going to be a decent load temp, this is one instance where idle temps tell a big story. 60c is a terrible idle temp.

Well what do you regard idle, playing a game, browsing the net, or actually IDLE. Since ive booted it up it hasnt been anywhere near idle, i did turn the fan on the top of the case to low, but i dont think thats anything to do with the CPU

Browsing the net is hardly any load at all. What games are you playing? Let the pc actually idle (i.e do nothing) for about 5 mins to get a decent base reading.

Its not toally idle while running WoW though is it?

What you need to do is do nothing at all, just the hw monitor, no gaming, nothing. then take a temp.

Looks like he re-seated the heat sink but have'nt cleaned and re-applied the thermal paste which could be causing the high temp.

Well i cant really reapply thermal paste if i don't have any.

ill do the readings tommorrow if you don't mind, want to have a bit of relaxation and fun on it tonight

Sorry to be thick, but what CPU and Heatsink please?

Just to clarify, 63-69 is with the system fully loaded and NOT at idle?

I would never recommend a system be shipped with the heatsink attached, but in some cases (i.e. pre-built systems) it is simply unavoidable :-( Things like the Corsair H50 help alleviate the issue however. (due to them being vastly reduced in size and weight hanging off the CPU.)

If this is an i5/i7 chip then I don't see the issue with the temps you are now getting at 4Ghz, but I'm no ofay with these chips. If it's an AMD chip then I'd be a little worried, as max temp at your clocks was meant to be around 62C (just quoting a friend here though).

If I was you I'd be asking for some thermal paste to be sent out, so you can do the job properly. In my experience/opinion if you are using the same paste, you don't really need to clean the chip with alcohol to get acceptable temps, but it does help when swapping paste types/brand.

It was, me forgetting to turn the heating off/down and it was still on timer when i got in :D Its very mild outside and the house is very efficient with heat

yeah id ask them to send out some mx-4 and something to take the old paste of properly with......i find alcohol to be crap at this job...i use artic silver thermal material remover to clean the old paste and artic silver thermal surface purifier the buff the top of the chip like new.....wouldnt even consider using anything else now

That's a bit worrying not having re-applied thermal paste, just be careful that you don't stress the CPU too much otherwise it could be a costly "bit of relaxation and fun tonight".

Running firefox and general apps+rendering video on vegas is sending CPU usage to 100% and 95degrees temperature. Think ill get that paste ordered lol.
