The 10 biggest tech 'fails' of 2010

And they completely alienated the biggest potential market for the ipad (artists) by using a capacitive touchscreen that doesn't work with a stylus whereas all the other tablets on the market are resistive...

Biggest market would be artists? Doubtful.

Every single person I've spoke to says the site preview on search when you mouse over is extremely lame.

As for images it still pops out the results and doesn't take you directly to the image like it use to

Crap

Couldn't agree more, when i am on google images, all i want is the image so it should take me straight to it!

Everyone in office staring at me now - laughed out loud after reading that!

Probably a repost but made me laugh:

I'm going to stand up for the iPad :D

It has multitasking
You can get a USB connection kit
It has an amazing onscreen keyboard, or you can connect one via bluetooth, USB or the 30 pin connector
Webcam, i've never needed one on mine
Expandable memory? I think 64gb is large enough for something that is not made to be your only computer
Flash video is awful, you can watch html5 which most sites have now anyway
Not sure about it being super absorbent, i look after mine.

Doesn't make them fail though does it, there's been too much bandwagon jumping to call it fail unfortunately.

Sad, but true :( While I hate the iPad and think it is a very pointless piece of hardware, it did sell incredibly well. The amount of people in the world who went out and bought one truly shocked me.

I weep for humanity :(

Why though? I'm considering one when the new one is released purely because it does everything that I would need it to do in a small package that my wife, my boy and I can use without issue.

I, and many many others, don't think its pointless and don't understand why people get so emotional about them

The iPad is a fantastic device. It's not supposed to replace a notebook but as a tool for instant internet browsing and email, that can sit on the coffee table looking smooth the rest of the time, it's great. (I know the iPhone does the same thing but the iPad's larger screen makes it easier, alright?)

Cheer up, mate ! :p

Blimey, if I`d known that it was going to upset you that much, I would never have bought one.

:D

But so does a netbook? Just without the touch screen. You're forking out a chunk of money for something that a netbook will do better and will be cheaper to boot. As far as I know, apart from the touch screen etc., there isn't one thing you can do on the iPad that you can't on the netbook, but the reverse is very very true.

For something completely reliant on the internet, no webcam? I doubt i'm the only person who actually uses one to talk to people. And no USB ports? I know there's a lot of stuff online these days, but USB ports are pretty damn essential still. Not asking for a whole host of them, but at least 1?

I agree it does everything it says it does, but I just don't get the point in spending more on something that does less. Touchscreen isn't that worth it for me.

Lies! You went and bought one just to upset me :( I see right through you! :p

Exactly, the way most people use the internet they don't need a proper keyboard, and the internet is the only thing they need a computer for. The iPad is much better than a netbook for mobile computing - try typing on the proper keyboard while you're standing up, it's extremely cumbersome and not needed for most tasks.

I don't need everything that a netbook does more though. I rarely ever use a webcam, I believe that the new ipad will have a front facing camera that can be used for it though.

!

That can't do flash.

So, an expensive paperweight then?

Apple will kill Flash. I don't miss it; most websites I visit don't use Flash and, those that do, I can visit using my my notebook.

If you think it's an expensive paperweight because it can't do Flash then you need to re-adjust your perceptions of the internet in 2011!

Not really sure why you are getting so worked up over something that you are not being forced to buy or use

You obviously haven't really used one, if you have used one at all, as they are nowhere near as bad as you make out. I'm not a fan boy, when the iPad came out I was very dubious about whether it would do well or not. Personally I would prefer a tablet which had a full OS which could run normal software and a more rectangular screen which would make watching widescreen videos better.

But a couple of weeks ago I ended up winning a 16gb wifi iPad. I have to admit that I have be surprised at how nice it is to use and how slick it is to do most things. Yes there are a few niggles but overall I'd have to say I am very impressed with it.

Would I prefer a tablet as above still ... yes, am I happy using the iPad for now ... yes

Whoever wrote that is completely clueless, at least about point 4. The Nexus One did not fail at all. Google never intended to become some kind of handset seller or Telco. It did the job it was intended to do, kick handset manufacturers in their collective ass.

They got the Nexus One hardware out there to push forward what companies were doing with Android in hardware and software. First handset with 1Ghz snapdragon and others are still playing catchup.

Some dodgy american clearly. One who doesnt understand that 3D TV's won't sell until there is enough content to be watched to make them worthwhile. Add the normal early adopter price and its not going to be a big seller to start with.
Wait and see, I bet 3D TV becomes huge in the next year, which is where it would be expected to really take off.

I really love the idealism that you give Apple. Apple is great and never does anything wrong unlike those other sinister money grabbing big faceless corporations. Steve Jobs is my god! Hallelujah!

How on Earth will Apple 'kill' flash? Flash is superb when done correctly.

Also why do you want a device that is so restrictive to say that you can't use flash? To 'police' the apps (i.e. banning Wikileaks app for one). After reading Steve Jobs 'we want to ban porn' e-mails I just realised how stupid Apple and most of there fan base are. Sadly I've lost my picture of a BMW badge in a pile of horse dung but the same principle applies.

Enjoy your restrictive device.

Come on... I'm not some raving Jobs fan, I'm writing this post on a Lenovo Thinkpad running Windows 7.

My comment about Apple killing Flash was in regard to the uptake in iPhone/iPad use. As more viewers of websites use these devices, what sane-minded web designer will use a format a hearty percentage of the readers can't read? (Anti-Apple neckbeards in their parents' basements aside...)

I don't want a 'restrictive' device (in fact it's not if you jailbreak it, but that's another matter), I want one that's a good tool for the job I give it. If that's browsing the internet, reading a little email, watching movies on planes then nothing does it in as nice a package as the iPad at the moment. Look at the alternatives, they're laughable or massively more expensive. If you can take off your anti-Jobs blinkers you'll see that Apple have achieved something good with the iPad.
