3 10yr old pregnant every year !!!

All sexual acts with anybody under 13 are considered statutory rape, no matter how old the male.

Thanks and if I meant to say statutory rape I would have. Clearly I was referring to rape as being forced to have sex rather than participating below the age required to legally consent to sexual activities.

Biologically, can 10 year olds even get pregnant? Surely puberty needs to have triggered cycles etc?

Which often starts before 10. If I recall correctly, 8-12 is considered the normal range for menarche (and pregnancy can occur slightly before menarche). I looked it up ages ago because I was wondering the same thing as you when I'd read about a very young mother in a paper. There are recorded non-pathological cases of it definitely happening as early as 4, reported as happening as early as 2. Non-pathological as in the person going on to live a normal life with a normal lifespan.

Of course, it also starts a sex drive. I wanted sex when I was 9. I didn't have much of a clue about it and I hadn't had any sex education at all (times were different back then), but instinct is enough. I'd have leapt at the chance if anyone had offered and, being 9, would have given not the slightest consideration to the consequences. At that age, I had so little consideration for consequences that I was doing stuff like trying to jump a river on a bike because...thinking about it, I have no idea why I tried that. I couldn't even swim. I could have died. I did no end of arsebrained things that could have killed me. Early adolescents are generally monumentally lacking in foresight and that's why ages of consent for various things are a good idea.

There's about 60 million people in the UK. It's bound to happen from time to time. It just gets reported more often now, while when it happend 40 years ago it was hidden.

I was just thinking that three per year is not that bad.

It's still terrible of course.

1 to 2 million? Surely assuming 1 egg per month (ish, no need to be exact) that would mean she would have enough eggs for over 115000 years!?

A lot of spares. Most of them are destroyed by natural processes from birth onwards, not released during ovulation, so a couple of million at birth is only enough for a few decades.

Well this is the UK today, too many teenage kids want to grow up too fast. Before they go out, play in the park with friends, get a good education in school, leading to a good job later on. Instead they are moving out, having kids, getting into long term relationships and married before they even turn 20 years old. They should be living life as an teenager, having fun and not living as an adult.

It's worth bearing in mind that this is a very recent idea. The entire concept of "teenager" is very recent. For most of history, you were considered an adult by then. So the idea of "teenage kids" is (i) very recent and (ii) unnatural. Biology says you're wrong, simple as that. You're advocating growing up slower than biology, so you're on very shaky ground saying that anything else is "too fast".

With a modern average lifespan, I think it makes sense to delay having children well into adulthood (i.e. early 20s), but I'm not going to pretend biology changes to suit my opinion.

Seriously you are worrying me.

The reason why other 10 year olds are not getting pregnant is because they have good parents and censor their kids from bull****.

That is wrong.

A child a 10 cant make life decisions, especially about sex since their brains are not yet matured to that of an adult.

That's right, but why "especially about sex"? There's nothing special about sex. More abstract decisions are more difficult to make without the necessary maturity. Which is why we don't allow children to sign legally binding contracts, take out loans, etc.

10 year old having sex would be exploited and groomed into it.

That is wrong.

please explain rather than just "that is wrong"

There are a huge number of irresponsible parents so the fact that only 3 10 year olds get pregnant each year would suggest that censoring kids is not the only reason other kids don't get pregnant.

Natural exploration after puberty could easily be a reason why 10 year olds engage in sexual activity so you statement about grooming being the only reason would also be incorrect.

No idea about children this young, but the number of conceptions amongst 15-19 year-olds has held steady at about 6% for almost forty years (and was higher before that). It's not an especially recent phenomenon.

I would prefer that my kids were educated and open-minded about homosexuality, rather than semi-literate homophobes.

Indeed, the main differences we have compared to Europe is our mentality towards sex. If we opened up a bit more and stopped pretending sex was something that shouldn't be discussed kids might know that sex results in pregnancy or maybe even how to use a condom!
