What's the most scared you've ever been?

Being 600ft below the Atlantic on one Her Majestys Submarines when a pipe blank blew a whole , the pipe that system ran off was pressurised to 10 PSI above sea pressure.

One emergency surface later and a compartment full of water up to my knees I was pretty scared.

As my job as a police officer, i call on the 27/11/09 to got to a RTC, a very bad one as we got told by our contoller possible death!, so at this point i was starting to get ready what i'm about to see. When we arrived there i saw this car in a tree what about 15ft high ( i knew at this point some one had died) fire service had pulled down the car from the tree and then the ambulance service when to see if any was ok or dead, on of the ambulance guys come up to me and gave me a wallet i opened it a found a driver license i looked at it and then it hit me like a bloody train..... it was my best m8 who i knew for 15years, he died at the scene i was a reck and didn't know what to do.... so i went round the his mum and dads house and told them what had happen!... still to this day it scares the **** out of me and i lost a really good m8 of mine.......

bloody hell mate, that's harsh :(

Anyway on topic. Probably flying over towards the states and hitting severe turbulence and the plane kept on dropping violently, what's worse was a person screaming we are going to die. Only two days earlier a plane crashed in the same area so that was on my mind too!

Have had several which should have scared me a lot more than they did.

What truly terrified me though was waiting to go under a general anaesthetic to have my hip put back together. Something about knowing that I was very shortly going to lose consciousness and although highly unlikely, I may never wake up.

yep that one gets me everytime, a mate of mine died under general just having his wisdom teeth out, now it feels bloody horrible when they wheel you into the anaesthisia (sp) room, not ashamed to admit I think I cried a couple of times, maybe more!

Scared for yourself and scared for others are different things. When my mum passed away after an illness lasting over 20 years, I actually felt relief for her that her suffering was over.
My wife's mother was murdered by her lodger(s) 2 years ago, just after she had returned from Christmas with us. My wife is constantly tortured by what happened to her that she could not affect, and the fear her mother must have felt in those last few moments.
2 years ago today.

This is a cool story

you must have an awful broker or really bad mobile phones, surely you set markers on the stock?

really find that quite hard to believe to be honest with you

No we didn't since the Chinese stock market can only fall or rise by 10% each day. Of course we had mobile phones but we were just too busy negotiating for other things. Business negotiations in china with the Chinese is very different to over here, usually consisting being accompanied by for a full day.

too busy to jump ship after daily back to back losses and mounting exposure, for the sake of 400k you couldn't make one phone call and dump your portfolio.

really?

I don't doubt what you say about the chinese business ethos, however, it would take all of 40 seconds to revert your positions.

lesson learnt at the very least I guess

Was it like the movies with just red lights on and alarms going off?

Either the time when I found out I needed bilateral hip replacement and got diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (all announced at the same time) at the age of 18. Or the time just before I went into surgery.. both I found pretty horrific.

Playing Alien v Predator 2 (marine mission-2002 verison) in the complete dark, with headphones on, a bit stoned and all by myself... never do that again!!

Before we departed for the trip the stock didn't fall for close to 3-4 weeks, so as stupid as it sounds, it never came across our minds to check the market. It was not until after the trip we had realised what happened. It has certainly been a lesson for me but I can't say the same for my uncle.
