Hi another Ebay question please.

Ive sold a item on Ebay recently, the item was sent on the 30/12/2010 and the buyer hasn't received item yet.

Ive checked the Royal Mail tracking page which simply tells me the item is still in progress, so im guessing the item has been lost.
The buyer is giving it till tommorow until he asks paypal for a refund, obviously i cant do sod all until 15 days has passed until i can make a claim with the Royal Mail.

So if the buyer asks Paypal for refund as the parcel still hasnt arrived and they can see that the tracking info still says the item is in transit, will Paypal debit the money from my account to refund the buyer and then leave me to chase the money from Royal Mail?

I think i know the answer:rolleyes:, just thought id ask people as ive never had this issue before

The buyer can get stuffed. He needs to wait a reasonable time for Royal Mail to do it.

I claimed an item was lost in the post on eBay before, and the seller told me to wait until Royal Mail allow a claim, and they'll refund me and claim at that point.

That seemed reasonable. You should reasonably explain it to the buyer and asssuming he's not an idiot he'll go with what you say.

Yes paypal will give a refund and you will be left with royal mail.
Give them some time to deliver though. my postie friend says they're well behind on parcels

I've got a Paypal dispute going right now. It was supposed to take 20 days before Paypal would intervene, but since the retailer had not responded at all I escalated it early, to see what would happen. The retailer has now responded with the tracking number that Paypal requested, and I'm waiting on eBay responding, they responded with the tracking number today, eBay say they'll respond on the 9th.

Even if he does raise a dispute he'll need to wait. Surely if he raises it and tries to do what I did, escalate it early, you can provide the tracking number and Paypal will tell him to wait? Why would they request the tracking number otherwise?

Yeah i been in communication with the buyer and spent 30 mins on the phone to RM and have provided buyer proof of tracking that the parcel says its in transit.

Yet he is making a claim tommorow if nothing arrives, not much i can do,Ebay/Paypal is a complete joke with sellers and there is no protection at all

wonder what happens if the parcel then gets delivered whether you can reverse the reversal, probably not, yet another wonderful ebay **** up :(

Yes this has crossed my mind, yet the buyer has agreed to send the item back if this happens,i just got to hope hes honest.

the buyer sounds like a tool.....posted on the 30th. Probably got processed on the 31st but didn't move anywhere.....new year, sunday and probably two other days off so typically not even looked at till the 5th so i would hazard a guess that it only really got shifted today....depending on what post you sent it, it will arrive tomorrow or saturday unless its at the bottom of a pile somewhere.

Kmufc77, you might have missed oen of my posts. Zowghi is guessing and got it wrong. I've explained what happens if he raises a dispute and how Paypal handle it.

He raises the dispute
You have 20 days to argue with him
At that point he can escalate it
Paypal will request a tracking number from you.
So far it's over 20 days.
------ Above this line is fact, below it is conjecture.
Clearly they're not going to request a tracking number for no reason at all. If you give them a tracking number and Royal Mail say it's still being delivered then they'll just tell him to wait until Royal Mail get somewhere with it.

I'd get back to him and tell him he can raise a dispute if he wants to delay things. Tell him as soon as Royal Mail say it's missing you'll refund him in full. Until then he should wait for it. If he raises a dispute it'll take 20 days before anything can be done, which would delay his refund.

Thanks mate for the good advice,im just emailed him asking him to wait until atleast Saturday.

If what you say is true then let him make a dispute and delay things,i will post back in the thread and let you all know the communication from him/Paypal

I thought its my duty to be a nice buyer and be as helpful as i can.maybe im being too soft?

surely he can wait an extra few days for his double-ended pleasure diving black mamba with additional anal seeking rabbit attachments?

some people have no patience!

It's possible the buyer is a bit trigger happy because of the reputation eBay/Paypal have. I think people are much more inclined to be blunt and demanding over the internet, especially with the fraud/scam stories going about.

I don't envy eBay sellers, they have to strike a fine line between being firm and not getting done themselves, but also being nice.

Again here I am with the "Here's what I'd do"

But you need to be very clear and give the guy as much information as you can, and give him options and let him choose the only sensible one.

Assure him that you have sent it. Show him the tracking link. Explain that it is reasonable for him to wait until Royal Mail either deliver it, or admit that it isn't coming - they DO have a timescale for that. Assure him that if that was to happen, as soon as it happened you would issue a full refund without any delay.

Explain that he does have the option of raising a dispute. However disputes last 20 days, and it would simply delay things until the end of the 20 days, at which point he would have either received the goods and it would stop. eBay would request the tracking number which you would supply. They would only order a refund if Royal Mail had not delivered, and it was not still in the process.

-0-0-0-0-

Of course I'm guessing what Paypal would do once they had received the tracking number, but I think it's reasonable, extremely plausible and morally right. I'm pretty sure anyone in those circumstances would opt to wait until Royal Mail tracking said yes or no.

Here guys this is what ive just received be grateful is someone could tell me what to reply back to,im not that good with words:

Hi Dean. If you were any kind of decent person you would have offered me the refund without me having to make a claim for it. Its obvious that you are just trying to delay paying as long as possible with no regard for me or my kids.I will send you a £40 request to repay the money and if its not repaid tonight I will make a claim as soon as I get back from work and my feedback will reflect the way you have handled this situation. Regards,.
