Thought any random search for "120mm" would bring up 23000 versions of this question, but it would appear not.

My CPU fan is starting to tire, it's a noctura NF or a Yate d12sm if memory serves...in a Tuniqtower.....it's just getting to the point where if the machine is off long enough to get back to ambient temps....the fan has trouble starting....still manages it on it's own without a tap....but wont be long before it gets like my old Athlon cooler that needed to be handcranked like an old aircraft and could resonate itself to a stop at times (usually when I was out which is how I found out just how hard it is to melt an athlonXP2800.)

And runtime cooling looks a little ropey too, though I dare say the heatsink is nearly solid with crap by now, which is probably doing that most bizarre and hateful of PC tricks.....overheating a the fan.

Noise is not an issue there's three PC's in here, and this is for the windows gaming machine which already drowns the others out. All I care about is mucho CFM!!!!

Any thoughts (without getting into anything insanely expensive made for the army or NASA or someone).

And just while we're at it.....what's a good, reasonably blowy but cheap 120mm to buy a shedload of for the 3 aging antec900's? Some of the fans are Juuuussst starting to go wobbly in the oldest machine (over 3 years old, runs linux, only powers down in a powercut, so nothing to whinge about).

Cheers folks...I hope I can get a good answer and get the hell off this website again before the buildbug bites (I'm broke so it would be a frustrated build bug resulting in endless fantasy shopping carts and hatred :D )

am i correct in thinkign all you want is a fan with high airflow and little concern for noise?

if so look at Delta fans for your solution :P

however if noise is a small issue, i favour the sharkoon 2000s, while im sure there are better quieter fans out there, i've used the sharkoons in a few builds and all i can say is they do their job.

Cheers guys.
Basically as long as it's slightly quieter than a harrier landing I'm cool with it....the Tuniq quiets down whatever fan is in it quite a bit anyway

Not sure if you value your ears. It would be a shame to get some powerful fans and not being able to stand the noise, as they are loud!

The Akasa Vipers at 2000 rpm are going to be loud, no matter how you look at it, be warned!

I second that, great fans:)

Thirded. They are the queitest high air flow fan I have used. If you really don't care about noise though go for a 38mm fan as they have even better air flow.

As for case fans,if not worried about noise they dont really need static pressure so any fan with high air flow should be fine.

lol mikegunnz claims l'm deaf l'm only 56 ;) because l think the vipers are not that loud, at 1700rpm l can just here them, the vipers are only 28db Noise (dB[A]) at 2000rpm.

Id put some deltas in if your serious about the noise policy. I think they can do over 100cfm.

Deltas would be the way to go if you're serious about what your said about noise..... but I suspect they would be too loud. Similar kinda volume to a vacuum cleaner or a leaf blower: Not really suitable if anyone is going to be in the same room as the computer.

lol DELTAS

i ordered one yeara and years ago when cases used 80mm fans and it sounded like a hair dryer but it did push some air

I just ordered a couple of these for this purpose
Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900RPM Slip Stream 120mm Fan
- Air volume at full speed (12V), CFM ±10% 110.3
- Noise level at full speed (12V), dB(A) 37.0

They are much cheaper at £8 each
and the CFM looks very good.

Going to put one either side on my H50 Rad just while benchmarking. Could never use them day in day out.

Thanks so much guys.
OK maybe the delta MIGHT be overdoing it a little :D

The Fan is through a controller, so I have slowdown options is things DO get a bit too loud.

Like the sound of the akasa's they seem to be able to heft a fair bit of air around without being scary loud.....hair=dryer/vacuum is probably a little too much LOL

When the windows machine is shut down, for a minute or two you'd swear they'd all shut down...takes a while for the ear to recover enough to hear the others LOL.

Those. Best CPU fans you can get, they push a torrent of air even at 1600 rpm which is when the noise becomes more noticeable.

Beware that they are fussy with fan controllers, they work much better plugged into the motherboard if possible.
