PC gamer Top 100 PC games Of All Time.

Minecraft beats Counterstrike? Possibly one of the best known PC FPS ever?

I think that must surely teach all of these big companies who spend millions of pounds on making games a lesson.

How does Minecraft beating Counterstrike do that given that both of them were homebrew affairs?

They have the wrong X-com in there (Apocalypse smashes enemy unkown out of the park), The Half Lifes in the wrong order (the first one should be higher, the second one not there at all) and in general its a bit of a laugh, as these things normally are.

Supreme Commander 2 being above the original is a pretty huge fail there in my opinion. Also having world of warcraft above WCIII is just wrong.

And The Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion No.3, really, it was a solid game but putting it so high up just seems ludicrous.

For me Quake, Doom, Hexen and Rise of the Triad should be in Top10, to me the list has been compiled by someone who is 12 years old.

Doom and Quake et al revolutionised PC gaming. As did Counter-strike, HL1 and BF 1942

If you've ever read any of PC Gamer, it's just a magazine by CS kiddies, for CS kiddies. The amount of time spent bumming HL2 and it's associated mods is quite unreal.

It's why I cancelled my subscription.

Fallout 3 in the top few but not Fallout 2?

Supcom 2 in the top few but not Total Annihilation?

Does not compute, list is broken.

TA was awesome... Shocking tbh.

WoW second?

WoW is genre-defining and played by MILLIONS. If that isn't the mark of one of the best PC games of all time I don't know what is.

I do agree the list is wrong in various places though as it's skewed in favour of much newer games.

Portal is immense. The mechanics of the game are fantastic and open a world of development opportunities.

Company of Heroes Online at #11?!?!?! Why not just go for the original game at #11???

Surprised CODUO never reached the list and also very surprised that MOHAA isn't higher up the lists as it was all anybody used to talk about for a while.

Grim Fandango is at 80, down from 40 last year.

I can't remember if they included the US staff in last years Top 100, but I don't think that they did. It's interesting to see some of the drops from last year:

Baldur's Gate II Was 25 now 76
Frontier Elite 2 Was 31 now 61
CS:S Was 13 now 60
Thief 2 Was 9 now 51

Maybe it's because I'm fairly old by PC gamer standards, but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me - are there 51 more games that are now better than Baldur's Gate II for example? I'd have them all in my top 20 or so.

Exactly how this kind of list fails for me.

Are they saying that 40 games that came out since last year are better than Grim Fandango? Or maybe 40 old games have magically got better?
