PC gamer Top 100 PC games Of All Time.

Baldur's Gate 2 only just scraping in... below Dragon Age: Origins?
No X Wing vs TIE Fighter?
Enemy Territory making it in over original RTCW? (obviously because it's free)
Burnout Paradise (widely acknowleged as the worst of the series) in at all?
No Call of Duty at all? Yes everyone hates the latest iterations (that's why they sold so well....) but the first one was a brilliant FPS and set the tone for a megabucks franchise.
GTA IV in as a token nod rather than as the epitome of a sandbox game?

Words cannot descibe the fail.

No mention of the greatest multiplayer game of all time, TFC, yet TF2 is in at #4, lol. TF2 has about 10% of the depth TFC did. Conc maps, deathmatch, clanned, puzzle maps, they all had cult followings. TF2 is just a shallow, frustrating experience. You walk so slow, get backstabbed by invisible enemies, get killed by ubered players which you cannot damage, get 1 shotted by skilless lucksacks with a single crit, and that's before the fiasco that is the mannconomy. The only time I find TF2 enjoyable is when you've just discovered an exploit that makes you more powerful than everyone else, like the amputator glitch, it means you can finally affect the outcome of the game by yourself. In TFC you didn't need exploits for this. You just had to practice your skills and come back and rape everyone honestly. Hate the way games are going... sigh.

Also, Arma 2 better than Half life? **** off. Always knew PCGamer were retards.

This is so so so so painful to read. Clearly you have never stepped foot outside of the 32 man, instant respawn 2fort servers that you found at the top of the server list.

Perhaps try joining a server with no random crits? Or maybe search around for other types of maps because there are many. I'm part an amazing jump community that plays on community created jump maps on their own servers. Just because you haven't found these communities doesn't mean they don't exist.

Also saying you can't affect the outcome of the game yourself shows so much ignorance. You're basically saying you aren't good enough at the game to have any affect on it and then blaming the game for that. Today I was playing with someone who was an absolutely amazing scout. Turned out he was an ETF2L division 2 player, so no wonder he was dominating in this pub server I was on. Whatever team he was on won the round. You don't have any idea how ridiculously high the skill ceiling for this game is if you think 1 person can't affect the flow of gameplay. Not even going to mention the level of teamwork needed to play in ETF2L...

Where the hell is Quake 2? Or Quake 1? And why is Doom so low down? There was a time when EVERY gaming magazine, for about a year, managed to talk about Doom in one of their stories. It was HUGE in its day. Absolutely huge in the way Space Invaders was. You even had stories in the newspaper about companies locking down their network so people playing against each other didn't overload it.

"65"

ELITE
Release: 1984
Last year: 60
Those simple white lines in speckled black space marked the transcendence of games from toys to worlds. There was no score, a baffling concept at the time; and you couldn't complete it, something mainstream games are only just starting to mimic 22 years later. You simply flew, explored, traded, fought, improved, lived. And for that, it has no equal.

Bad list is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

It's like some 20 year-olds got together in their office and said, "Right, name all the games you can think of."

Here's the Top Thirty as voted for by the writers of the mag. It's all subjective of course but it's always interesting to see what the so called experts believe constitutes a great game.

  1. Deus Ex
  2. World Of Warcraft
  3. The Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion
  4. Team Fortress 2
  5. Half-Life 2
  6. Rome:Total War
  7. Diablo 2
  8. Portal
  9. Starcraft 2
  10. Ultima VII
  11. Company Of Heroes Online
  12. UFO-Enemy Unknown
  13. Arma 2
  14. Half-Life
  15. Left 4 Dead
  16. Sid Meiers's Civilization IV
  17. Minecraft
  18. Counterstrike
  19. Planescape Torment
  20. Half-Life Episode 2
  21. Hitman: Blood Money
  22. The Elder Scrolls III:Morrowind
  23. Starsiege:Tribes
  24. Unreal Tournament
  25. Mass Effect
  26. Age Of Empires II
  27. Fallout 3
  28. Freespace 2
  29. Supreme Commander 2
  30. System Shock 2
Not sure how many of those would be in my top 30,maybe 10,agree with Deus Ex on top though.

Agree with a few of them. Deus Ex was way ahead of its time. Elder Scrolls are excellent. TF is overrated. Mass Effect could be higher. Hitman: Blood Money wasn't THAT good either.

Certainly not a UK reviewer/gamer list is it!

Nice to see a proper game like X-Com at No. 12. I wish I'd been a bit older at the time the Ultima games came out, like VII. They required rather more patience than I had back then

Seems that way. :(

Crazy with all the genre defining classics we we're blessed with in the late 90s.

Late nineties were the pinnacle in my opinion. Great times.

Morrowind > Oblivion.

Oblivion doesnt deserve a top 10 place, but surely Guild Wars does.

Baldurs Gate II and Alpha Centauri deserve top 10 places too.

My Top 10 would be:

1) Civ 2 + 4
2) Alpha Centauri
3) Baldurs Gate 1 + 2
4) Morrowind
5) Guild Wars
6) Rome Total War
7) Command + Conquer (no particular one, just all the ones by Westwood)
8) Deus Ex (nah nah nah nah nah, its not my no.1 :p)
9) Age of Empires 1 + 2
10) Gothic II

All strategies and RPGs for me, unfortunately I never played Diablo II, just its future spin offs - Sacred 1 + 2, Torchlight and Titan Quest.
