Rift: Planes of Telera Beta

The amount of classes and class sub-specs is amazing in Rift, never seen anything like it.
My big worry is it would take a team of pvp/pve wizards to balance the game around so much diversity.

Yeh, the class system is very, very good, just a shame so much else is cookie cutter lifted straight from WoW stuff, and I agree, PvP balance will certainly be interesting to behold.

I'm in the beta also and its been great so far, this game is so polished unlike mmos of recent times (FF14 / AOC), if your looking for a change then its definitely worth considering.

Heres a fan made vid that shows the game with everything maxed (no AA though)

And the first preview I've seen,

inc Gamers RiFT Preview
:)

Only heard about this game yesterday, but it looks quite good. Doubt I will get a Beta key though, since I only signed up for one yesterday. :(

Ive preordered the collectors edition just now. Im desperate to find a good mmo to get into.
I played DC Universe online i didnt like that. Im bored of WOW and LOTRO.

Im waiting for Star Wars The Old Republic so hopefully this will keep me amused till then.

I liked WAR a lot, but got constantly frustrated that I would be miles away from a piece of scenery and still get stuck on it, Does Rift have any problems like that?

And is the whole class/soul thing confusing, or does the game introduce you to it slowly and makes sure you understand it all?

I've not had any problems with getting stuck, I cant stress just how polished this game it, everyone on the forums think its the best beta ever of any mmo.

The class system is overwhelming at first because there are so many options, in beta you get them all really quickly for testing purposes (there are 8 souls to earn) but it wont be like this when the game launches and you will have time to digest them before you get the next. The souls system is one of the best things about the game there are so many combinations, I think a dev said in an interview there is over 300 combinations of souls between mage/cleric/warrior/rogue.

Well it is a relief to hear that it is very polished, with so many recent MMO's being as buddy as hell at release (WAR, STO etc.)

I might have to pre-order this, anybody got a Guild they can recommend? Or perhaps even an OcUK RIFT guild.

Pre ordered CE earlier. cba with WoW anymore and after watching OMFG Cata's videos on youtube it got me interested in it. Been watching other videos as well and it looks very well made. The world stuff like fighting rifts is awesome as well.

I pre ordered on their website, e-copy. Just waiting for the next beta phase which is on 25th of Jan from what I have heard.

What class/souls you lot thinking of going? I been looking at a Cleric healer, so the sentinel and Warden souls.

I'm not bothering Pre-Ordering, I've been let down too often with MMO-Flops. But if I do happen to start playing the game, I am looking at the Inquisitor.

is it worth pre-ordering online? i'd really like to try the beta but then if i order it somewhere else it would be 10quid cheaper.

decisions, decisions!

i might just get it from their website tonight :D

Pre ordered mine, looking forward to trying it out as there does seem to be some nice idea's mixed up in there.
Will be going for a necro biased to a support role.

I'm still on the fence on this one. The soul mixing thing is either very cool and deep, or a bit of a gimmick that doesn't impact greatly on your character, I can't decide which yet.

Seemed to work quite well with rogue subtypes, but I struggled to get a cleric one that didn't overlap a lot of similar abilities.

The class system aside, it seemed a bit generic. Neat environments, and a decent story backing it all up, but the same old kill-ten-rats stuff going on behind it all. I'm probably just getting a bit jaded with that at this stage.

For those wanting to try before you buy there may be a chance to get a vip key (same as you get when you preorder) that will let you into the remaining beta events.

The RiFT team are going to give away 500 keys if they get 75,000 likes on facebook by 10:00am PST on Thursday.

RIFT Since we’re so close to our goal of 75,000 "likes" this week, we’ve decided to leave our last great VIP Beta Key giveaway open a little bit longer. If we hit the mark before 10:00 am PST this Thursday, we will be giving away the 500 keys in time for their recipients to participate in Beta 5. You should tell your friends! ^Zann

ZAM are giving away full closed beta VIP keys for the coming betas, you'll need to be fast though as they will all go I would have thought.

ZAM Keys

:)

Thanks for the heads up, just got my key from there. Question - what do I do now? I've entered it in the apply code section and it confirmed it as a VIP beta code however under account management nothing updated. No download links either :S

They will send out a mail starting tomorrow but continuing in batches upto the 25th which has a terms and conditions to accept, once you accept youll get a download link in your account page, the client in beta 4 was a 7.5gig download.

Then its just a case of waiting for the servers to come up on the 25th, in beta 4 the servers came online at 6:00GMT.
