January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

Doesn't look like it but I think Wenger will sign a defender as he did say he'd wait and see the news on Vermaelen's injury and as far as I know he will be out until at least March after having an operation yesterday to remove a tendon.

Anyone know who that woman is on Sky Sports News right now? I couldn't find her on their website and she's a bit yum. :p

she also a bit thick...and must never look at the premiership table

on Benty...'lets see if he can make the step up to the premiership'

cos you didn't give the money to oneill when you were in a better position

now you are paying over the odds for a player who is a good goalscorer, but isn't worth up to 24 million pounds...and if this was the summer window, you wouldn't contemplate paying that much for

I'd put that down to Lerner not wanting to part with money at the time. Not that we didn't have any money.

But yes 24million for Bent is silly I will agree with that totally.

Why exactly isn't he worth 24mil, he's scored within what 3-4 goals of Drogba and Rooney over the past 5-6 seasons, and that includes 2 fairly unproductive seasons at Spurs. Hasn't he outscored Rooney in most seasons, a quick check suggests in the league Rooney, since 05/06 has outscored Bent twice, once when Bent barely played in his first year at Spurs, and last year, 26 to 24.

He's one of the most consistant scorers in the league, also very NOT injury prone, which is becoming rarer and rarer these days.

Why exactly wouldn't someone on par with the top scorers in the league be worth a similar amount. Considering Rooney cost more, and is far worse at the moment, and Drogba is worth more and is currently crap.

I fail to see on what scale he isn't worth 18million up to a potential 24mil.

How much is he worth, 15mil, 12, 10, 5?

Personally it seemed more like O'neill had made some not so good signings, was getting the squad bigger and more expensive yet not really moving on and the football was, well fairly one dimensional, but for Young they were a bit rubbish under O'neill. It felt more like the owner not wanting to back O'neill in going forwards rather than not having the funds.

As for Arsenal, we bought some kid didn't we, though I forget who and can't find him on our site/sky sports transfer listings. Ryo Miyaichi, though, we signed him in December and he was supposed to join in the new year, not seen/heard anything else about him since then. Is he actually at Arsenal yet?

£18-£24mil! That's a hell of a lot of money. Bent gets a lot of goals for sure but it still seems a little steep.

?

He made a fair few signings that weren't too great. Plus the fact that he was never using any of our youth. Some of them are playing pretty darn well now they've been given some time.

I'd hate to agree with DM but to be honest I would say it was more of that ^^ than no funds.

In the past five seasons Only Rooney and Drogba have scored more goals than Darren Bent in the league.
Darren Bent is a player who should be playinf week in week out for a top side.

Not when you consider Milner went for more in the summer

Any City signing wouldn't be the best example to justify Bent's value. They were intent on getting Milner and could & would pay whatever it took.

Berbatov's fee would be a better example, especially considering Fergie's stance on 'value' ;)

How would Berbatov be a better example? He moved to united 3 years ago. I guess Rooney is also a better example?

Honestly, I could see him at any top 4 club, except Arsenal, because we refuse to play two strikers, despite having so many very very good ones. I think Vela, even Theo have the potential to be pretty damn good finishers with RVP/Bendtner behind them in the team, without Vela/Theo/Jet I would happily have Bent play infront of RVP or Bendtner though, if we ever get back to 4-4-2.

But UTd, 4-4-2 Berb with Bent ahead would have worked well, better than Rooney for sure.

People get too wrapped up in tricks and other things and think Bent is too one dimensional, but a lot of football is simply doing the easy things right. Bent makes the right runs, ALL the time, Berbatov, when wingers/rooney is playing well, knows where they'll be and plays great balls in behind the defence, its easier to do that with a predictable player than say Rooney, who might just drop deep and foul someone all game long rather than be where everyone else needs him to be.

Bent would be a 15, maybe 20goal + every year striker at a proper club. He got a very respectable number of goals at Spurs, being treated like crap, openly mocked by Redknapp, ignored by Ramos, no consistant starts and still banged them in at a rate of 1 in every 2 starts.

He's scored goals everywhere he's played, the top scorer in the last 5 years aside from Drogba and Rooney, and above all proven in the Premiership. Seems like a decent buy to me. Guaranteed goals is priceless.
