On the United front we have to accept we're going to be linked to every bugger for a fair while now after this whole Rooney saga, despite Ferguson saying we don't look to do business in January.

be fair everyone, some turds are too big for even 300mill or so over 2 seasons to polish.

I'm quite content not purchasing in January, you don't tend to get bargains and it's tricky with players being cup tied. We may as well just ride the season out unless we find a real gem of a deal. Saying that I think we might needs to start to offload some of the chaff as we've some promising talent that needs playing time but too large a squad to fully accommodate them.

not sure about akinfeev myself. There's a few that I'd be interested in. It would be good if we could get vds to stay on for a while so we can bed a new keeper in.

I suppose we could get Reina and promote PIG and have Reina as our #2 I think he'd be alright at that.

you want Cassano... that shining beacon of team spirit and level headedness. That's what you think City need right now is it?

I haven't read your whole debate with Nick over VdV but a couple of points on Liverpool's 'interest' in him:

Purslow met with Real when we were playing Atletico in the Europa League last season and it was being widely reported that Real offered us VdV. And again this summer Hodgson admitted that he was offered the chance to sign VdV by his agent. I'd find it hard to believe that Liverpool were the only club he was offered to.

yep, offered to all the minnows ;)

Thanks for clarifying about the youtube thing Nickg.

Arsenal are confident of agreeing a deal with PSV Eindhoven's Dutch midfielder Ibrahim Afellay, who is a free agent next summer. He has also been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United.

It's interesting that he was willing to sign a 6 year contract in the summer while h&g were still there and yet raises an issue now.

Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Holland midfielder Ibrahim Afellay from PSV Eindhoven in January.

Ibrahim Afellay is the latest creative midfielder to join Barcelona's ranks
The deal was announced on both clubs' websites on Monday evening though a contract is still to be agreed between the Spanish champions and the player, but if all goes to plan then the Holland international will move to the Nou Camp when the January transfer window opens on New Year's Day.

A statement on Barcelona's official website read: "PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona have reached an agreement on a deal to bring Ibrahim Afellay to Barca, subject to successfully settling personal terms between the player and the Catalan club over the coming weeks.

"Until the deal is finally settled, Ibrahim Afellay wishes to concentrate on the upcoming important games for PSV."

The 24-year-old Afellay's contract with PSV was due to expire at the end of the season and it was announced last month that he would not be penning a new deal with the Dutch outfit, with whom he has spent his whole career so far.

Afellay played at the World Cup for his country but only made two substitute appearances as the Dutch reached the final but lost to the countrymen of the club where he will ply his trade from the beginning of 2011.

thought he could have been decent for Arsenal.
