6970 or GTX 570?

given the games that u play and my experience with the GTX 570 i would recommend you get one of those - at 32xAA in BC2 u will not be disappointed ;)

cool :D excited and can't wait for it :)

I am really looking forward to Dirt 2 maxed out and butter smooth :)

ok a possible problem... my PSU only has 6 pin power chords to go to the GPU i have at the moment... which card out of the two requires more than 2 six pin connectors?
I think you should let us know what PSU you are using before installing the GTX570...to make sure your PSU has enough power for it...

i know it has enough power its a Cooler Master Modular 700W

already looked into it and i am not a complete computer noob ;)

just wasn't sure in the graphics department area as not needed a new one for an age

thanks

thanks guys, GTX 570 ordered and will be in the PC wednesday evening :)

will report back with a little review on the performance and comparison of the new to the old

cheers
Which 570 did you end up going for . . . ? :)

Good choice :)

I have a 570 on a similar setup to yours so will be intresting to here your findings. Once you get the card, have a look at the official gtx 570 thread to see what clocks other people have managed and add your own results to it.

Good little thread, Im looking to buy either a 6970 or a 570 at the end of the month to go with the 2600k setup. I think upon reading here i may go for the 570!

thanks guys, i went for the MSI GTX 570

will be overclocking but only keeping the clocks if it ends up being a worth while fps difference :)

also in the market for a new cooler for my CPU though, H70, H50 or cooliet ALC ?

thanks

I have the his 6970 and its a great card, good value , quiet, plays Black ops at full everything at 1920x1200 and still frames at 120-160fps, they are on offer again aswell

i managed to go straight in at 900hz core, 1800 shaders and 2000 memory with voltage up to 1.073v. Havent tried to lower the volts yet but sure i could go higher first :D

definately not going for the 6950 after recent finding outs of warrenty being void and problems such as bricking or something once flashed?

yes its not an instant bricking thing but it develops relatively fast....

games i currently play include:

Crysis 1, warhead and 2 when its released!!!!

Just reading through the thread again and wondered (sorry, it's a bit late now!) if you should have gone for the 2gb frame buffer since you like crysis. Stock 6950 has better average frame-rate than a 580!
Have you seen this? Crysis Benchmark Results

'At 1920x1080 resolution, the HD 6950 once again manages to beat the GTX 570 by 2 frames. What is even more impressive again is the higher average frame rates from the HD 6950, where we see that the card comes just a tad under 30 FPS while most cards can only output that many frames at lower 20s. Enabling 2x AA and 8x AF and we can see the performance gap between the HD 6950 and the GTX 580's minimum frame rates has been narrowed slightly. While the HD 6950 is aimed to compete primarily with the GTX 480, and maybe even the recently released GTX 570, the Crysis benchmark certainly puts it in a very good position.'

Don't get me wrong the 570 is a beast of a card but i personally would go for the 6970. Mainly because the 570 is so much more expensive for an extra 2 fps on unigine.. 45 is enough on that benchmark.. plus the 570 is a VERY hungry card, along with its big brother the 580 and its little brother the 480, whereas the 6970 uses MUCH less power than the 570

Not sure where that Crysis benchmark came from, but most of the Crysis benchmarks/reviews that I have just checked show the 570 and 6970 are pretty much equal (even at 2560x1600). Here's an example from techspot and here's another. Overclock both cards and the 570 should easily win. Why would anyone play Crysis again anyway?

I guess anything can be proven with individual benchmarks. It's best to take an overal view including all games, and the general consensus is that both cards are pretty even, give or take a few games that have preferences for NVidia or AMD hardware. F1 2010 for example loves the 6900's and their 2GB frame buffer, HAWX loves NVidia's shader power.

My link is for the Crysis benchmark(link to review is highlighted in red in my earlier post) not Crysis Warhead. Your benchmark links are for Crysis Warhead, not Crysis. Crysis Warhead is not as demanding on hardware as Crysis is.

OP stated that he likes playing both crysis games and is looking forward to Crysis 2 when it comes out. If Crysis 2 is optimized for PC and not a slap in the face console port, then the 2gb frame buffer of the 6950 will probably give better results than the 570.

Interesting benchmark, although it is actually the minimum framerate that is better than the 580. Like many benchmarks this may not be indicitive of the overall experienceon the game.
