Discrimination again...

Wow, so much anger when its pointed out that a non muslim is being discriminated against.

Do you pay council tax? Yes? Then you will be funding this council funded playgroup.
Does this fly contrary to the discrimination shown to the gay couple turned away from a B&B? I think so.

Don't forget ladies and gents. You have to be SEEN to be welcoming all other races and religeons with open arms in Britain otherwise you'll be branded god forbid "racist!" or "BNP voter". You are NOT under any circumstances allowed to discuss anything that could be deemed as negative agains't any non white Brits, this clearly constitutes racism and means you are likely to be jumping in the queue for the EDL.

It is illegal for any business to discriminate against anyone based on their race, religion, sex or sexuality.

Yes, but social groups can, and even must, discriminate. Otherwise, if one could not discriminate against anyone based on their race, religion, sex or sexuality it would be, by default, illegal for muslim prayer group to turn down application from Jehowa witness preacher, you couldn't stop dudes from signing up to womens only gym and you couldn't prevent bunch of white skinheads from joining Swahili book club.

Perhaps this playgroup has staff with language skills to serve a specific part of the community - any nursery can speak English.

Would it be any different if a nursery was set up to provide for disabled children and an able bodied child was turned away?

That's a good point. And quite often these news stories do turn out to be more than meets the eye. Selective reporting produces far more sensational stories.

A spokeswoman for the Equality and Human Rights Commission, said under the Equality Act 2010 it is not unlawful to set up a group especially for a particular ethnic or national group (Torygraph) but I am sure that the two penny-pinching British parents will manage to get their children in, all the foreigners will leave and the Torygraph and Daily Wail will proudly trumpet a victory for traditional British values

Here is what the group does:

We work with the Heart of the Community Trust for whom Making Links is a major project. Making Links seeks to operate in the spirit of the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) document, “The Reception and Integration of New Migrant Communities” (2007), which stressed the need for “bringing communities together and facilitating interaction between them”. The numerous women and children who attend (currently around 50 each week) comment that Making Links frees them from feelings of isolation, helps them build multicultural friendships and empowers them with knowledge about the local community. Thus Making Links presents a friendly St Neots face to people who might otherwise be outsiders.

The aims of the project are:

· To develop cross-cultural friendships
· To promote cultural identity and self-esteem
· To promote community relationships with local service providers
· To support the client group in meeting the needs of their children (0’s-under 5’s) through promotion of services for under 5’s and Women’s Health
· To empower the client group to be part of decision making processes within the group
· To support clients who wish to access training to promote self-development and employment opportunities

So this is all about developing cross-cultural friendships.

I think I need to formalise a law about the number of posts in an OcUK thread between mentioning someone of a different nationality and muslims being brought into the discussion. There never seems to be any need for it, but it always seems to happen.

Spie doesn't care and he's certainly not impartial on the subject. Make of that what you will.

I agree with you.

I know what it's always been like, but the past year it seems to have become ridiculously muslim focused, and I don't just mean muslim bashing, it just creeps into every discussion "but, imagine if they were muslim"

To late..hope you get a holiday :)

No, I put it back in not for fear of reprisal but I did remove it because it was a sweeping statement without linking to the comments he's made.

Why on earth would I get a holiday for stating something which the owner of Overclockers has been quite forward about when discussing the issue?

e : Oh, I see you edited and added. It's the truth, nothing to do with not being nice.

Seriously, what the hell are you two on about?

1. Where in this thread or the article in the paper did it mention Muslims? It hasn't. So, congrats for jumping on your soapbox spouting rubbish.

2. Why the sly digs and assumptions about me? I posted this to laugh and make fun of a discrimination law that discriminates. No hidden adgenda about anti Muslim/Semetic/whatever.

3. What problem do you have about threads that have Muslims mentioned in it anyway? Must we sweep everything under the carpet to protect your delicate sensibilities? Have you got such a big chip on your shoulder that you can't stand the sight of anything to do with Muslims, therefore it offends you when the word is mentioned?

For your information, I am a father and I encourage my child to play with other children from different backgrounds. That way he hopefully won't grow up to be an opinionated jerk with no real life experience who jumps on the bandwagon soapbox every time a contentious issue is raised.
