Work Canada 2011

I have applied to go this year :) - I was wondering if anyone else from OcUK had applied as well. Be nice to get to know someone before I get out there on my own.

Have you been Magnolia?

Work Canada eligibility
You must be:

* A US citizen (preferably holding a US passport) aged 18-30 inclusive; and
* A full-time degree-seeking student for either spring 2010 or fall 2010 at a US accredited college or university

Just noticed this?

Currently in the middle of the process for a Permanent Residency visa for Canada. Fingers crossed we will get it, but if we don't then plan B is to get a Bunac visa and road trip from the east coast to the west coast of Canada over a few months/year. :)

Got an email about this from Bunac a few days ago, Really want to but I phoned up and you'll need $3000 for the first three months while you there, which i dont have :(

Really wanna try and go next month

Do you really need the $3000 up front before or the $1000 a month, which should be much easier with a job, I would have assumed the $1000 up front before going though?

Yeah think its up front, or once you've sorted out your application. Think its so that you can pay for your accommodation until you get a job

Where are you hoping to work while you're there, seasonal jobs?

My girlfriend is Canadian and I've just got back to the UK after being there for 4 months. Job market in AB was mainly construction so we're looking at her coming to the UK on a 2 year visa as I'm not confident I could find good work and a permanent visa off the back of a 1 year Canadian.

Would love to go back though, great country. Have fun!

I would love to go there again, went last year and it was incredible, but being a poor university student I should probably stay here in the boring uk :(
Might I suggest Whistler, even if its just for a week, the atmosphere is just sublime, go and rent a bike and go blast a few trails, head to GLC and have a few pints and watch people stack it over the GLC drop :)

My girlfriend's brother went to Canada on the Bunac scheme, he stayed in Whistler and worked on the lifts, he loved it.

p.s if you want any advice on anything out there give me a shout, I realise it can be quite daunting going out there without any job etc but its do able, believe me!

So can anyone with a British passport and under 30 apply? You don't need a degree or to be in uni?

Sounds pretty sweet.

Do they help you get a job over there, or is that all down to you?

Is this thread the best place you think or should I email you in trust?

From reading I believe that once you get there you get to go to a welcome meeting. Which will they discuss how to find a job, set up a bank account & how to find somewhere to live.
