PAYDAY DEALS - PC/PS3/Xbox 360 Games Titles at Deal Prices *** While Stocks Last *** The Perfect Chr

They were never going to be able to compete with some of the larger companies who primarily sell games...

Its not a decision I would have made personally to start selling games, but I dont think its fair to expect very competitive prices this early.

They clearly don't want to be a niche, Hence they're trying this, they are already getting left behind some of there competitors with regards to laptops especially.

If I had a business like ocuk I would really be trying to push 3d TV sales, laptops, phones, games, consoles, ebooks and stuff. That wouldn't mean I would ditch my cpu and graphics card sections as that would be silly, all ocuk are doing is trying to compete in more areas... I wouldn't want my business to be labelled a one trick pony, especially as the competitors got on the act way before ocuk. In 10 years time can you really see enough business for PC parts only?

Whsmith used to have a games and DVD presence now it's a tiny corner of overpriced chartware you can pick up cheaper next door, there are the higher end providers like ocuk for people who know what they want and there are the cheap throwaway laptop providers like the supermarkets. Education on the benefits and capabilities of mid desktops compared to high end laptops in terms of gaming, 3d work and creative use would help. Using Blender on a laptop pretty much means you cant have it on your lap and don't need to turn on the heating.

Diversification only works with loss leaders which is what a lot of games are for Supermarkets yes they get a bulk discount but they also lose money on the game themselves, unfortunately game store lose even more money if they try to compete with the supermarket that they can't recoup through there main business.

Wow, wonder what the backstory was to this! And also how long will this thread stay open? :p

I think he was their general manger, hes been replaced now going by a thread in GD.

Too many big shops selling console games for a smaller company to make much of an impact. Supermarkets have some of the best release day deals around and they seem to make the effort to display upcoming games etc.

If OcUK want some new lines to sell, how about PC desks? It's surprisingly hard to find a decent PC desk that doesn't have 6 shelves and slots for 200 CDs and a cut-out for a small desktop case.
