I am buying a Corsa

Its no better and no worse than a fiesta

Oh it definitely is worse than a Fiesta. The Fiesta has always been a good drive - the Mk3 non sporting versions lost their way a bit but Ford sorted that with the excellent Mk4.

The Fiesta has almost always been the best drive in it's class.

I have test driven a couple of cars, Fiesta, Corsa, and old Polo, and a Yaris, out of the ones I drove I prefered the Corsa, I thought it would have been easier for me to pick the model and then go from there. This is my first time buying so I must admit I will be a complete noob when it comes to this. :)

I may be making the wrong choices, which is why I posted here, so I expect to be shot down due to the amount of knowledgable of people on this forum.

If you have test driven a Corsa, along with others & that's what you like, get a Corsa. Dont let anyone else tell you what to buy. It's you that's going to be driving it. They dont really give a shiney about you tbh.
We have all had little cars in the past that others wouldn't touch with a barge pole, but who cares? I loved my little AXGT, over 3 years it cost me the grand total of about 50 quid for a new alternator, a mechanic friend fitted it for me. It was even quite good on petrol costs. Most 'experts' would have said dont get one of those.
You get what you want to get. A Corsa wont be a kings ransom in running costs.

My Corsa Sport was the best car I've owned thus far in terms of cheapness and reliability.

I am not even jesting. If you like them, like how it drives etc, then get one. They are IMO even cheaper to maintain than Fords!

Granted mine did drive very well IMO for what it was and did go, stop and corner better than a boggo one. I would say Corsa B's are tougher/more reliable than C's but people like what they like I guess.

Way more reliable than any VW haha.

Clio or Fiesta, over Corsa. I've driven all 3 and the Corsa is bottom of the pile.

If you're getting a first car, may as well do it properly and get something nice. :)

That's crap advise IMO.

As a first car you want
Cheap to purchase
Cheap to insure
Cheap to tax
Cheap to repair

"Something nice" does not fit into any of the above.

It does when all the choices fit the above - therefore why not choose between them by picking the best?

All of those choices that I happened to include in my quote did yes, but as stated, the OP shouldn't restrict himself into a one make wonder just because it "looks nice"

My first car at the age of 22 was my saab 900 which is a 2.0 turbo. (Group 17 insurance) It cost me £497 to insure it back then which was fully comprehensive in my own name with no other drivers. (standard policy for a full year) I'm now 24 with 2 years no claims and its up to nearly £800, which is still cheap compared to most. It shows you that you don't necessarily have to buy a tiny engined small car to get decent insurance. I still pay a fair bit less than all my friends who have things like a fiat seicento sporting, an old 1.4 fiesta and a 1.6 mazda 323.

Wow didn't notice the major replies which have been posted here, I will have to read them when I get home tonight. - I have not purchased yet, I feel like I am really taking my time.

Probably the best thing to do - what have you learnt to drive in may I ask?

That's a tidy car. I would love to see my son driving one of those. He's only just coming up for 16, so no rush yet! But that's smart. I miss the days when a 2 door was fine for me. They usually look way better than 4 door.

nothing wrong with a corsa; the missus has one :)

but honestly, i drive it too and find it a great little car. Awesome for going the shops in and getting a curry so nobody can hit mine with a shopping trolley :D

Many drivers wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a Corsa or Fiesta when driving as they're not worlds apart. Some people make out that it's like night and day! The Fiesta may be a better car overall but it's not that much better than the Corsa.

If he likes Corsa's then he should get one.

And while we're pimping cars. This is my brothers old Corsa he bought as a run around after he sold his Jaguar Sovereign.

I think it cost him something like £300. This picture is after he modified it but technically it looked the same when in 1.2L mode.

havent read the whole thread, but what about Japanese cars? like Toyota for example. Have a toyota 2 door coupe 12 year old, 240k km on the clock, which was climbing mountains during my time in the army and is still going strong..
