Have you ever been mugged?
Please add your stories and the location to this thread. I'm particularly interested in stories from muggings in London and other cities.

I've never been the victim of any violent mugging, but I have had a few incidents in London.

I was in Tottenham Hale going to a rave back in 96-97 with my friend. An ethnic man approached us and asked for money. My friend and I just stood there like idiots while he checked our pockets. I should tell you that we were only 15/16 and it was my first outing to Tottenham. Luckily our £20 notes were stuffed in our socks, so he didn't get anything.

I've been in a few other incidents where ethnic men have asked for money and tried to search me. The last time it happened I just continued to walk, and he left me alone , while my friend stayed with the man who was searching him. Walk off, and let them try to stop you, I told my friend afterwards.

Anyway, that was all ages ago. I walk around the homecounties where I live without much fear of being mugged, but what about you folks living in cities?

i wonder if it was the same "ethnic man" that robbed me of my phone once...luckily it was the only thing of worth i had on me. had some sort of....screwdriver or something....wasn't a knife at least. looked just as sharp though. damn you ethnic man!

An 'Ethnic' Man eh?... Wonder where this Thread's heading? :D

Actually, while I was at Manchester University a lot of people were getting mugged and beaten by the locals, who from what I heard were white. I'm not saying it's only an ethnic problem.

Never been mugged, thankfully.

But can I ask why both of you had £20 notes stuffed in your socks?

Must have been out of fear of being mugged, I can't remember. Probably someone had told us that it was "proper" dangerous down there. Plus I had a habit of hiding things in my socks and pants around that age.

Some white guys opened the phone box when i was on the phone once and demanded 20p for their call, was about 15 so handed it over.

I want to say some Muslims mugged me - but they didn't.

Hull's chavs have tried to take my cash a few times before, never really got hurt - but not particularly pleasant.

Edit: did have one guy threaten to stab me, but I don't think he actually had a knife.

Otherwise just the usual pushing, spitting, punching... left me with a bitter taste though.
The next chav who messes with me is getting their face scraped accross the pavement.

I've been mugged four or five times but it hasn't happened in about seven years. Each time it was a couple of black lads cornering me at a bus stop or on the bus and going through my pockets. I never tried to fight back, mainly out of fear, but also because I never had anything worth stealing.

The first time I was mugged I was about 15/16. I was on my way home from a night out in London when this guy came from out of nowhere, asked me for the time and then pointed a pistol in my face. No idea if it was real but it certainly wasn't worth taking any risks as I only had £2/£3 on me. I live in Croydon, btw.

First time last year by about 6 or 7 chavs whilst on my way home at 4am. Lost my iPhone, wallet, keys, etc.

Wanted to fight back so much but tbh it really isn't worth it these days with the amount of idiots carrying knives.

No, not really. I want to hear about people that have had knives put to their throats or had their head stamped on, before being stripped of every valuable.
Here you go then, although i do find it a bit odd that you want to hear about things like this:

My mate got mugged badly a couple of years ago. It was day time in Preston, 3 guys walked past him, stared at him and shouted stuff at him but he ignored them and carried on walking. Next thing, he gets punched in the back of the head after a bit of scrapping one of them tried to stab him but he dodged it and just got a bad scratch on his side. After that he gets pushed into a wall hitting his head badly causing him to fall to the floor, then ******** then kick him and stamp on him when he is on the floor which resulted in a few broken ribs, nose and a few broken knuckles and fingers. After all that they robbed his phone and wallet then legged it, they were never caught. Since then he has always carried a knuckle duster, it's dodgey but i don't blame him.

*edit* I have been jumped but not mugged, it was about 8 guys vs me, my bro and best mate...They came off a lot worse :D

I live in a very safe place so no, I've not been mugged.

I really don't know how I would react to being mugged, I'm normally a very laid back guy but my blood really gets boiling at the thought of it, more so than someone actually just wanting a fight.

I have never been mugged, but there was a brilliant video of a chap being attempted to be mugged on one of those police programs. The guy walks up behind him and looks like he puts something in his back. The victim spins round grabs his arm and flattens him to the floor and then holds him there with one arm and calls the police with the other. he then holds him on the floor until the police arrive.. The announcer ends with "If your going to mug someone its probarbly best to make sure its not an off duty Special forces soldier who is already not in the best of moods"...... Made me laugh.
