downloaded and installed this morning,

apparently if you were running custom firmware and you installed this, it bricks your ps3.

new firmware changes the ps3's master keys, so all the hacks and stuff no longer works.

new firmware has already been hacked and the new master keys have been found, therefore new custom firmware and hacks should be out soon.

sony have responded and so have the hackers, let the battle commence.

edit:damn can a mod change the ps£ to ps3?

How can they change master keys without fouling up all the software designed to work with the old one?

No it doesn't.

Homebrew not working has nothing to do with the root key, and everything to do with the npdrm key which has been blacklisted.

If the "master key" had been changed, causing signed homebrew to not run, then legit released games would also not run.

this isnt really a game though is it?

hacking is not a good thing, ok great so little jimmy and timmy might blag a few free games now but next time we get more security, more lockdowns and less customization...fail for the average consumer.

and all this for what? too effectively boost some pricks ego.

There are already workarounds, and the 3.56 keys have already been found and published. A CFW 3.56 is only days away.

There is NOTHING Sony can do to stop homebrew now, each and every new update will be easily dissected and modified, the ONLY way it can be stopped is new hardware.

When big companies put out firmware updates in response to hackers, it just makes the hackers feel more special. This only motivates them. :p

by releasing the new OFW, sony is just trying to show its investors that they havn't lost the game yet.......most of the hackers say they do it not because of piracy but they take it as a challenge ......look at iphone every FW update gets jailbroken

/\ This tbh

The keys were out within hours of the new FW release, the only way Sony can make it awkward (as this is the best they can do) is to release a FW update every other day and hope the modders loose interest in dissecting and modifying it.

It wouldn't even be that awkward for those who don't care what firware version they're on. Currently, manually changing the DNS servers in the PS3 network settings means that you can get onto PSN whilst skipping the check for the new firmware at boot.

Forcing regular firmware updates will annoy the average-joe consumer much more than it will annoy CFW users, and as such it simply isn't a valid strategy.

That would seriously **** off the legit user though having to download a full Firmware every day.

what ****ed me off is they stopped the whole install other os option ages ago and after that i was kinda ****ed off as i was planning to install the whole yellowdog linux thing for ps3. :<

but hats off to sony for giving us som many updates and still no ps2 backwards compatibilty (which i know will never happen)
