*** 25/02/2011 EXTENSION! *** DEAL OF CENTURY: Asus GeForce GTX 480 1536MB Graphics Card with 2 FREE

I just clicked on the Guru article on the SLI 560s:

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-560-ti-sli-review/5

Theres not really a lot between two 560s and two 480s, the 480s are around 5-10 fps better than stock 560s for the extra power consumption.

If you arent bothered about power consumption / performance though, go nuts and order 2-4 GTX 480s.

Man, dont do that! The GTX 570 is BETTER than a GTX 480!

You mean better cooling, I would not go from a 570 to a 480 even though 480 is technically the better card.

I just lol at Gurus charts, check the below review out, a 1000 core 560 can't match a stock 480.

Replace the 1 with an x in the link.

Better cooling, less power draw, lower temps, same spec.

I was comparing 2x GTX 560 to 2x GTX 480, not 1 vs 1.

Wait what? The 1 Ghz 560 is exactly the same as or better than the 480 in all of those tests. Read the review yourself before linking next time.

The only case where the GTX 480 is a little ahead is in Crysis by around 3 fps. Big deal. The GTX 560 has is matched / beaten in all the other tests.

The guru review I linked to shows the GTX 480s faring much better against the 560 than your link shows lol!

Nice deal. but is it worth me selling my flashed 6950 to get this gtx 480 at £195? I payed £213 for it but sells for more now so was thinking of trying to sell it before the price drop. Also how much more power does a 480 use over a 6950?
I recentlly brought a 3d monitor for the 120hz but thinking of switching back to nvidia to give 3d a go

I didn't think it was worth it until you mentioned 3D. If it's going to cost very little to change over and you're wanting 3D then it would be crazy not to do it.

Now it's "can I be bothered" :D.

Yet the GTX 570 still outperforms the 480 in most games / benchmarks / reviews, while consuming less power.

I would hardly consider the GTX 480 to be a better card than the 570.

For the price difference the GTX 480 wins hands down.

It's clocked higher and it's still on par for the most part. Smaller memory interface and less Vram help with lower power consumption.

What a deal this is, will be getting one in place of my 460!
Just a quick question guy's, How do Asus stand on changing the cooler for an aftermarket one? Can they tell? and will it bugger the warranty?

I think i be able to sell it with the unlock for almost same price i payed for it so wont cost me nothing.
And the fact it unlocks successfully without artifacts mite make it seem like good deal to someone who doesnt wanna risk buying a 6950 that doesnt successfully flash :p

I brought the 6950 knowing i was gonna get a 120hz monitor sometime but never planed on using 3d. But now i have the monitor im slowly starting to change my mind so this gtx 480 @ £195 seems like a good deal :D

I'd just use your hopefully backed up original BIOS and unlock the shaders only, or sell it back to complete stock. This way you won't have someone trying to send it back to you as much. Make things more complicated and it will only complicate your sale. Also everything may be fine now but as the memory timings are different between the 6950 and 6970 BIOS I'd just keep the 6950 memory timings and just unlock the shaders as this makes the card just as fast as the 6970 without the possibility of stressing the RAM past to what it was specified to do.

With the 120Hz monitor you're all set and ready to go. Good luck with your choice. :)

What power supply would you need for a single card and what power supply would you need for SLI?

600+ single (I'd try 650), 1000W dual, 2 in SLi pull 850ish, allowing for Ocing and headroom your at 1KW

Looks it.

You do realise theyre built on different architectures? Therefore you cant simply compare numbers and come up with an accurate comparison of performance, you may as well try and compare AMD and NVidia numbers

GF110 is a mix of old and new. To call it a brand-new design would be disingenuous, but to call it a fixed GF100 would be equally shortsighted. GF110 does have a lot in common with GF100, but as we’ll see when we get in to the design of GF110 it is its own GPU.

Yes it does, I was talking about the guy wanting to upgrade from a 570 to the 480, not choosing which one to buy.

Aye, I wouldn't do it myself and be content with the GTX 570. You could make £40-£60 from selling and buying one of these but I couldn't be bothered doing it for that.

I guess a 850W Corsair wouldn't be enough. I will just get a 650W Corsair instead to save some money and buy another single card solution in the future. :)

best plan tbh, Im running xfire now but dont intend to run dual cards again, gonna stick to single cards from now on, not had any xfire issues BTW, just the associated increased noise/heat and having to buy higher spec mobo and PSU to start with, in long run single card is way forward Ive decided
