New PS3 firmware 3.56

Surly the only people that will update are the honest people anyway. People that want to less legal things will jut stick with 3.55.

Just curious why people go I need a Media PC and buy a PS3?

Random person - "I know lets buy a game console instead that only has some media capabilities. Oh wait the PS3 doesn't do all what I need." I know I'll jailbrake it seen as I was already stupid enough to buy a product that didn't fit my needs" "Why spend more money on a PC when I have a PS3?."

Why not just have bought a cheap media PC in the first place and connect that to the TV?

I think Sony have sat down and the words "where do we go from here" have been spoken, I think Sony are doing their best to keep PSN clean, but as far as the CFW goes I think the battle has been lost.

How do you know? You obviously do not have a clue what you are talking about. I doubt anyone in this thread has enough technical knowledge on PS3 hacking let alone knowing Sony's current policies on the issue.

It's god dam 360 lovers I swear.

It's all balls in my opinion. I dont know how many times i need to read 'theres NOTHING SONY can do about it so haha STICK THAT SONY' or 'PIRACY ISNT STEALING BLAH BLAH BLAH.....oh btw your grammar's wrong and your spelling is the vernacular equivalent of a 5 year old with reading difficulties'

its boring as **** and i'm not interested in it. I'm interested in the technical challanges and what this means for the homebrew crew, but for god sake give it a rest with that stuff.

In the modern world they are identical - dont be neive (or stupid enough) to think otherwise

No they aren't.

Theft deprives somebody of something tangible, copyright infringement does not. And don't say it deprives the developer/publisher of a game sale, because that is not always the case. That's all I'm going to say on the piracy thing, it's been done to death a million times before.

- IT'S STEALING!!111
- NO IT'S NOT!!!11!
- YES IT IS!!!1!

Etc etc.

Not necessarily tangible. Say a hacker breaks onto my computer and takes all of my word documents, then deletes them from my computer, has he stolen them? Yes, are they tangible, could I have touched or held them? No.

But I can see what you mean, they haven't actually taken a game in the traditional sense. If they walked into a game shop and walked out without paying, that's stealing, if they download a game from a torrent or something I'd say that was piracy ie. unauthorized copying or use of someone else's work.

I've not upgraded yet but only because my internet is crap and can't connect half the time. But i'll be doing it for the following reasons.

a) I have no interest in backing up my games, using anything else homebrew or doing anything nefarious
b) i have a dedicated media server that can already do anything and everything i want it to
c) am not frightened of the hax0rs that are going to use the gaping chasm of a security hole to make me cry
d) I do use the PSN a little. Not a lot, but more than I would play a SNES game or doom on my 40" screen.

Exactly they don't know, they read a few hacking sites and come back to spew out stuff like they know themselves.

Every time I see one of these posts on nothing sony can do I see the guy from Aliens saying "game over man game over". ;)

On a further note, firmware 3.60 will allow PS+ subscribers to save their games to Internet servers...

http://kotaku.com/5746393/save-your-ps3-games-in-thin-air

That is me sold on the PS+ subscription tbh. I have been umming and ahhing for ages. I convinced myself that I would not pay for the early access to demos/betas etc and a lot of the game discounts. Being on my 4th PS3 (2 broke, 1 sold), the non ability to transfer a lot of game saves annoyed me the most and led to me flogging games I could not be bothered to replay.

I guess I will start looking for some cheap PSN cards to minimise teh cost and wait till 3.6 is released.

Back On topic.....

Same few people as well, Very vocal in 360 hacking/modding/cheating threads, and now very vocal in the PS3 ones.
None of us are geniuses about this stuff, but we all appreciate the PS3 has been compromised. I just can't see th point in shouting in multiple threads "SONY HAS BEEN HACKED NOTHING CAN BE DONE". Make your point, and then move on, play some games or something, or run some homebrew crap on your console, even though your PC is in the next room :) I have only seen one person on my PSN using homebrew, so far and it was an FTP client (Mega useful!!).

Surely now all 3 consoles have been hacked to similar levels? 360 Jtag people can't risk going online with their hacks, PS3 people won't be able to risk official 3.56 or going online and Wii has been hacked up as well (not sure what the restrictions are with those hacks, probably less as online is not a big part of Wii). If you care that much about homebrew just turn on your console of choice and run your FTP/emulators etc!

The FTP server is very useful if you catch my drift. I bet they were playing 'Rogue Warrior' for a long time eh?

Thats not true, I saw on the start of a DVD I bought that Piracy is theft its the same as stealing someones car or something :D
If you want to play mario bros on a 50" plasma or use it for watching
"legal" MKV downloads then sure keep your PS3 offline it doesnt bother me one bit. What i dont like is cheating muppets playing online with hacked games if this can be stopped by using whatever methods Sony use then its fine by me. If i wanted to mess about with homebrew I'd buy another PS3 and keep it offline just to do that, personally there is not one reason i would use homebrew on a PS3 my PC does it better and with far less hassle than using a console.

Actually, it's statements like this that show how little knowledge on the subject YOU have. You assume people are just regurgitating stuff from hacking forums because you obviously don't have much knowledge on the subject yourself. Speaking for myself, I form my opinions on the subject by looking at the evidence and what's known about the technicalities of the hack, following what the devs/hackers themselves are saying on IRC, and forming my own opinion of the situation.

I have only seen one person on my PSN using homebrew, so far and it was an FTP client (Mega useful!!).

It's easy to 'stealth' homebrew to stop it showing on PSN.
