New PS3 firmware 3.56

Only public keys, Sony fixed the 'random number' fail so private keys cannot be calculated like 3.55 and below. Therefore, at the moment, stuff can't be signed to work with 3.56.

True and its also seems Sony have a checklist of things they have signed, so even if they have a signed key Sony can check this against some kinda look up table and if its not one of thiers even if its signed it wont work. Not including the random security server side checks the PS3 now does, that can update at anytime without you knowing.

Yeah, it appears they have implemented a 'whitelist'.

Having thought about it a bit this morning, about the only thing custom firmware could do that I'd like to see, is to bring back the old start-up sound and chime effect when the game starts. That'd be quite cool.

remember the GT5 delay to make it only work with the latest firmware to stop the jailbreak?

didn't work, as they still hacked it to run :D

It stopped them long enough to not allow anyone to run it pirated before they had sold plenty of copies though. They knew it wouldn't stop it forever but it gave the game a chance to sell first.

Drexel, I also understand that this whitelist is not present in the new FW either as "they" have looked for it and not found it.

My understanding is that they found over 200 new sha1 hashes in appldr, which are/were believed to be for whitelisting purposes.

Go on then, point out anything I've said that's wrong. Oh wait, you can't. You are coming across as the rabid fanboy that you are, getting all up in arms because the security of your beloved PS3 has been compromised beyond repair. I don't profess to know every in and out of the depths of console hacking, but I can assure you that anything I do say on the subject is from my own understanding and research, and is not and never will be just repeating stuff that I've read on hacking forums.

Some serious ironing you are doing there, I'd maybe consider how your posts are coming across.

I couldn't really give one about the PS3, more important things to be concerned about these days, piracy bothers me and so does people making stupid claims.

piracy doesn't bother me, if i can get something for nothing i will. But stealing does bother me as it's a physical object, Strange isn't it?

Not that strange to be honest. Nowadays a lot of people just "take" copies of music, films, games, books without batting an eyelid. Since everything is digital now you barely have time to think about the consequences, before the file is downloaded and onto your hard drive!! :)

I am sure quite a few people in this thread have pirated stuff before and most of the others do so on a daily/weekly basis!

Copyright and Piracy mean nothing to a lot of people who are internet savvy, unless they are directly involved in an affected industry.

I'm the opposite, I don't mind breaking into your house stealing your precious momento's and TV or rifling through your mrs underwear drawer. Just don't download any games because it affects my bonus at EA Games.
