Goldring NS1000 issues

I think the best headphones I have heard up to today were some older technics that cost my Dad a few hunderd back in the day. These are so much better. My Dad is a musician (not by trade) and he is tempted to get a pair for himself now. I have been listening to loads of Satriani since I have got them and its so nice to hear every note now. My missus put on some LostProphets and she didnt want to take them off! :D

Question though, how long does the battery last for the ANR?
 
Goldring estimate 40 hours and I'd say that's not unrealistic.

Shorter cable though? Less than a metre?

I highly doubt it. It's probably the 1m QED cable that comes with the newer batches and he might be comparing it to the older one which was 1.8m IIRC.

That would also mean that the faulty headphones were from an older batch?

Are you sure? I wasn't aware of Goldring selling NS1000s with cables other than 1m.
 
The previous two pairs of headphones had longer cables. The new pair has a shorter cable. Now, my PC sits about 2-3ft from me and when plugged into the top panel on my CM-690, there is no slack at all to the headphones on my head. If I stood up they would unplug themselves. Ok so 2ft maybe was too short in how I described, but it is short.
 
Well something I have not mentioned yet is when the ANR is on. On the previous two pairs, it was very staticy. You turned the ANR on and it was a very obvious hiss. On this pair, you turn on the ANR and ambient room noise becomes quieter and if you really listen hard you can sort of hear some form of hiss, but that might just be something to do with my ears if that makes any sense?

My missus has taken to throwing pen tops at me when she needs my attention and I dont hear her talking too me...heh! :D
 
Excellent! Glad you have a working pair. :D

Rather pleased it's still possible to get them as they should be, ie working without fault. With all the problems recently, was kind of worried the standard had dropped.

Yeah that's exactly how mine are too. Good to hear you got a good pair. I don't think i would have been so loyal and forgiving though After the 2nd pair of faulty set, i would have moved to another manufacturer. I thank my luck in finding a good pair the first time round.

My missus just keeps talking to me when i'm wearing mine. I don't think it's sunk into her head that i can't hear a word she's saying. I can only see the angry faces she pulls when i don't respond :D

Angry face? Count yourself lucky, mine has decided that the best way to get my attention is sneaking up behind me, waiting for a big explosion in the game i'm playing and then proceeds to shake my chair (after I've jumped about 4ft in the air).

I really should have not read that out aloud to my missus, she now has a plan...

The only reason I did not give up on these headphones was due to you lovely people saying how good they are.
 
Well I'm waiting for my second set of ns1000's from 'The Jersey' company, after my first pair were faulty. Hopefully I'll get a decent pair this time. Sounds like Goldring may want to have a look at their QA procedures.
 
Hi, I also recently bought the NS1000 (from the Jersey site) based on the positive rep from this forum, despite the growing uncertainty about their current quality. (Using it on my new pc with a Xonar DG and a FiiO E5).

Obviously I can't compare to their previous 'generation' but so far I'm very impressed with what I've got.
First of all the ANR does indeed produce a hiss, very noticeable when nothing is playing, and changing the E5 volume does nothing to lessen it.
With music played over it, it isn't as noticeable and I forget its there after a while.
However as I don't use the ANR this is all a bit irrelevant to me, whether it'd help when I'm cutting the lawn with the mower going, I'm not sure!? :D

Without the ANR on and plugged in to my E5 I've found the volume can be put way up high (towards the limits) before any slight 'buzz' is heard, which suits my listening levels fine - and then some.

The sound quality has been great so far and I haven't noticed any creaking/clicking in the headband even when stretched - as I've read someone mention on here.

The cable is very short, and I have purchased a 3m Fisual extension for it.

Only thing I haven't sussed is a good selection of settings on the Xonar DG Audio Centre if anyone would be kind enough to point me in the right (or recommended) direction? E.g. Audio Channel, Sample Rate, Analog Out, SPDIF Out etc.

It all depends on what you're wanting to listen too; generally I leave mine set to:

Audio Channel: 8 Channels
Sample Rate: PCM 44.1KHz
Analog Out: Headphone
Dolby Headphone: Enabled (DH-1) (when playing games, off if listening to music)
Amp Setting: >64ohms

Windows Speaker Config: 7.1

You can leave GX enabled when playing music as it doesn't change the sound. If you want the EAX effects in games, leave it enabled. People have been reporting crashes in certain games with GX on, but i've not encountered it yet.

Also, have a play around with the VSS. Press the -/+ buttons to bring them closer or further away, or move the person about to suit your preference.

I think judging by the picture on the Xonar DX Centre there are a few preference settings, which don't apply to the DG as far as I can see. :(
