SandyBridge 5.724GHz

Hey 1Day

Just out of interest, what would you, as the worlds most extreme female overclocker or whatever you title is :D... what would you say is a good 24/7 overclock for these chips?

Whats the highest you have seen.. in your clocking community :)

Cheers

No title just forum member same as you mate. Lets leave the titles to the PR people who have to sell the stuff we buy.

24/7 overclock for these CPU's right at the upper limit of daily use. I would say 4.5 to 4.8 on water is a good limit. The SB is very good on water. The H50 or H70 will drop your temps by 15'c. The big thing is to get your fine tuning right. So the balance between enough volts to keep your system stable and not too much so that your system is too hot. Big one to pay attention to is the CPU PLL - that can be undervolted by quite a bit and reduces the heat load considerably. Also bare in mind that no two CPU's are the same or will perform the same. You have to take the time and effort to work out what is the best combination for your CPU and cooling solution.

None of the over-clockers and bencher s I know will be using their SB CPU's in a 24/7 system. So can not help you there. Most of the time we use hardware that is so no longer needed to bench with. The good stuff we bench with.

That being said I have bought a SB 2300 CPU and a H67MA motherboard for the family system. And so far I am very impressed with it. It doubles up as our media centre too. So the built in graphics of the new SB CPU is more than enough for watching our HD or Bluray media on the family telly and the bit of on line gaming my kids are into.

Yeah, they do seem like blinding chips. So far mine has passed a 25 hour prime test at 4.7ghz, and is currently 16 hours through prime at 4.8ghz

Think I'm gonna stop it soon and start work on 4.9ghz :D

My load volts for the 4.8 is 1.480, and my temps are at a fairly good 70 degrees due to a custom water set up

I think when my temps get to 75, I'll stop there

Best BANG for the buck. The key word here being BANG!!!

Expensive hobby this push to the limit overclocking lark. I prefer to overclock to save money, but great skills on getting it there! :D

You know that is exactly how I started. I bought a really cheap CPU (my first Intel system) and wanted to have the same performance as the top of the range CPU. Next thing I knew I was benching.

Beware there be dragons.

Well done on the overclock just read all the way threw this i love all of you extreme overclockers. I would love to do it but i dont have the knowledge or money to maybe one day tho. Congrats on the single stage as well.

Well I'd imagine it takes time and patience to get that kind of result and I have neither these days. You must be up there with the very top overclockers in the world.

Even though it might prove expensive, its cheap compared to watching football every week and goes to show the rest of us the absolute limits of tech!!! :)

Right, 4.8ghz it is

4.9 runs at a load volt of 1.504, and ran for an hour before I stopped it. Temps crept upto 75

Bit to much for my cooling. Its certainly a nice jump from my q6600 at 3.2ghz

Strangely, after fiddling with most of the volts and reading up on what they do, for the 4.8 clock, I've ended up leaving them all at auto apart from cpu voltage. Reducing CPU PLL all the way down to 1.6 as you suggeted 1Day, had no affect on my temps

Go figure. Like you said, all chips are different

LOL at the HATERS. your intitled to your own opinion, but keep it to your ******* self when it concerns other peoples stuff and what they are doing with it.

sick overclock 1Day.

That how almost everyone starts, and then the hidden monster that likes to eat GHz comes :(

I remember I couldn't afford a Core2Duo when it came out, so I got a Pentium D and OC'ed it as far as I could. Boy was a thriller! :p

I became a freak on memory optimisation when I bought my first PC, a 286 with 1Mb ram. There was nothing I wouldn't do to save a fraction of a kilobyte when loading and unloading programs (DOS).

I can see how the benching bug is. I tried it for a while when athlon XP thoroughbred 1700+ were about £40 a toss and got respectable results 75% OC on air but massively noisy, tried peltiers etc. Never in your league though, well done.

andy.
