*** 25/02/2011 EXTENSION! *** DEAL OF CENTURY: Asus GeForce GTX 480 1536MB Graphics Card with 2 FREE

Mine just arrived too :)

Well, first impression, nicely packaged and much quieter at idle than my Palit GTX 260 :) ...installation went very smoothly as you might imagine since I just switched one Nvidia for another, I already had the latest drivers installed anyway. Now I've never played Farcry 2 ...so I'll have a go with that.

Now I'm finding my 128GB SSD a little too small :p ...bring on the Vertex 3s eh

Well I don't know what all the fuss about noise was for, I admit I was a little concerned as I hate my computer making a lot of noise, but it's quiet enough, even under load it's quieter than my GTX 260 and doesn't quite hit the same higher pitch either.

Awww damn, knew I should have bought a 350W PSU and ran it at full load. :(
I was not advocating buying cheap PSU's because they can be a false economy. I was simply saying that a GTX480 should run happily on a decent 600W PSU without any problems. Why spend £130 upgradeing to a 850-1200W PSU if it is not needed?

A decent PSU will not blow up, destroy other components or burn your house down if it is overloaded. It will simply shutdown.

reviced my 480 great delivery came right on time :D
I was a bit worried about the noise of this card given how much has been posted about them but just ran it though 3dmark11 and I can say while not silent the noise issue has been greatly overstated. At idel the card makes no more noise than my 4870 did (well to my ears anyway) and underload it does make noise but could not hear it once my headset was on.
Only gave it a quick test but ran the benchmark ok and I am on a 650w Corsair

It really doesn't make much noise at all, at least not in my sound proofed Fractal Design R2 it doesn't, I can't actually tell you much about the temperature right now, Real Temp wont read it for some reason.

Apologies, I have another question for you guys regarding this GPU. (Not that the last one on the PSU in this topic got really answered so this could count as one question ;)).

Will this run an a DFI Lanparty Ultra-D Socket 939? (iirc)
It lacks PCI-E 2.0 et all (again iirc)
It currently runs a 4850 fine.

I am not looking to run it on this full-time. just to test the card and for a few weeks until I get my sandybridge build.

Thanks for your time folks.

Recieved 2 of these, superbly packed and both running well...

One at 800mhz stock volts and one at 825mhz stock volts.. Temps not going over 74 degreesa and thats inside an antec 300...

Cheers ocuk.. Top service again...

PS thats with fan locked at 61% so not noisy either :)

Ok so I'll just update this post with the information as it stands now;

The card is now idling at 48c and is hitting 81c running Heaven benchmark at the settings shown bellow.

The fan does spin up during the benchmark but it really doesn't get what I would call loud, and crucially the pitch of the fan isn't annoying. I've noticed the temperatures actually falling quite a bit from when I first fired it up, I can only put this down to curing of the thermal compound or just burning in or something like that. Personally, I think it's extremely impressive for the power it offers in the noise and heat departments, despite what has been said elsewhere.

My cpu is actually clcoked at 3.5GHz though, despite what that says. I have never run this benchmark before today though, so I don't know what settings people 'usually' use, but you can see what I did anyway.

Ok so I got a mail with track and trace number last night but it doesn't work (Parcelforce Euro 48), I can just use it on the parcelforce website right?

It still says printed in warehouse, does that mean it will be send soon with that t&t or that it has been sent but the code just doesn't work yet on the parcelforce website?

Is that whilst gaming, running benchmarks, or something else? Guessing it's not Furmark! :) Sounds like great news, though, and just what I was hoping for!

Getting very excited now. Shame I have to be away for work tomorrow and won't be able to be in for the post...

EDIT: Just seen Moeks' report as well. Man... roll on the weekend... :)

I think it helps that ive put the card in mid slot on the R2E which in the antec 300 puts it right in line with the side intake fan which then blows straight into the card over the exposed heatpipes..

Seems like Parcelforce has had some delays with collections, we have another collection today, so by tomorrow it should be all updated in their system.
