Dragon Age 2 - * Official *

Just hope they get the balancing right, after a few tricky bits early on in Origins it was pretty easy to just steamroll through the rest of the game (played it on hard) without even thinking.

This, SO many games get this wrong, almost too difficult in many early fights and after you've got a few levels going you're almost invunverable.

From your Bioshock/stalker type games, to your Mass Effect/Dragon Age, enemies don't scale well, are too hard at the start and ridiculously easy at the end.

For I dunno, 5-10 hours I was having trouble taking down groups in certain situations, lack of mana and the like, later on in the game I had such ridiculous mana reserves, or alternatives, and I could essentially one shot so many guys it was a joke. I only finished it recently and have forgotten the combo and spell names. Basically the spell power up thing + blizzard + lightning = damage almost nothing in the entire game could survive. But almost anything else I did was stupidly easy.

Anyway, I'm not adverse to hard fights, but for 3/4's of my playtime the vast majority of fights I got into there was zero threat, no difficulty, and most of the enemies involved were so stupidly weak it was a joke.

I'd kill for a game that varies difficulty of fights constantly, with the odd easy one thrown in for variation, but where the "boss" type guys after a few hours into the game aren't all so easy its pathetic.

Theres two things DA:O got wrong, difficulty/scaling throughout, and the completely uninvolved ending that after such a long game felt like such a epic let down.

Oh dear.

Indeed. Every now and then you'd come across a Revenant that depending on your set up might pose more of a threat than all the fights you've had before it or perhaps a hidden boss like the uber Revenant thing (the easter egg) or the shapeshifter.

But for the most part the regular fights would start off difficult and become really easy once you had enough skill points for some decent skills. Though tbh thats always gonna be the case if you encounter enemies that don't attack until they see you or come from a narrow point of origin. Its so easy to end a fight by simply casting Glyph of Repulsion on a doorway and putting all the giant AoEs into the room.

Accidentally clicking on the Revenants on your first run through was not fun :(
I ragequit so many times because of those guys!

Looking forward to this, just a shame I can't bring back my Dalish rouge called "Vagina Chinstrap" :(

Tbh even the Revenants couldn't compare to the 2 handed warrior boss 'Guard Captain' when you rescue the princess. My 2-handed warrior team could mob Revenants and take them down without too much trouble, she could almost kill any of my squad in 2 hits, even with 3 of them using the heaviest armour in the game.

I thought you were supposed to loose that fight?

Or am I thinking of a different one...

i won it after a few retries, but it involved running away to another room where she gave chase with 2 of her guards.

Yeah fighting in the main room is impossible. The shear number of scattershot archers would keep you stunned for the entire damn fight.

EA now confirms plans to release the playable demo for Dragon Age II on February 22, less than 24 hours after going to the trouble to cast doubt upon the evidence of their plans (though the demo is coming out one day sooner than the initial news indicated). This page on the Dragon Age Website offers details on the demo, which they say "represents just a small taste of what Dragon Age 2 has to offer." Here's a bit on the demo, including word on how it can unlock an item in the full game:
In the demo, players will venture through the game's prologue, choosing from three different character classes. They'll also learn more about Hawke and hone their skills and abilities that will make them the ultimate hero. After finishing the prologue, players will enter a key new location in the world of Dragon Age, Kirkwall, befriending Isabela, a romantic interest in the game who is also a deadly smuggler. Upon completion of the demo, players will unlock a special weapon, Hayder's Razor, an ancient dwarven blade which increases health, mana, and combat abilities, in the full release of Dragon Age 2.

I thought you were supposed to loose that fight?

Or am I thinking of a different one...

I kited her back behind the door and shut it to avoid archer fire ;) Kicked the crap out of her then took out the archers afterwards.

Might have to go back and give that another go then :D

Do you get any phat lute for your troubles or is it just for bragging rights?

I didn't realise you could lose it :p

You get her sword obviously, but mostly i think its just 'bragging rights'. If i recall the sword is strong but by that point in the game you'll have better.
