Just noticed now that one of Overclockers main competitors has now gone down free delivery route for member of related forum, requiring no minimum posts.

I am still in the market for a fair amount of mid to high end kit. Free delivery would just about tip me over the edge i reckon. Whats the chances OCUK? :)

leave it as it is

what your asking for is free delivery for everyone that signs up to the forum and never uses it again

people should have to be regulars on the forums for free delivery (imo)

What he said. OcUK would end up with literally thousands of accounts that are used solely for the purpose of getting free delivery. I'm always prepared to pay delivery for any item I order online, so getting free delivery here feels like a nice reward for being a member as long as I have been.

So you are going to spend £1000~ and you are going to quibble over the cost of a courier to deliver all the heavy kit?

wait till you see how long the competitors free delivery lasts once they start getting hundreds more signups than usual then never posting!

Point taken but, rather than having a direct impact on the forum, I was pointing out that it could have an effect on OCUK sales with customers that are looking to spend good money on the cheapest item. OCUK and its competitors are often quite even on price on a number of items that I've been looking at recently. Now, when you factor in delivery this can make quite an impact unless you purchase everything together.

It seems like, as long standing members you are asking for this unique 'bonus' but at the cost of OCUK losing new customers to its competitors because of this want for unique elite status. As a new member I find this rather off putting. I am a member on many forums because of interest, and a moderator too - because I choose to be, not to gain bonus' but because of interest.

I believe the same applies here. With regard to account being set up just to be used solely for the purpose of getting free delivery, that is very much the case, even now. At least mods will have less of a job hunting down 100+ poor post where people are trying to get to the point of free delivery so will just post spam. Instead you will have members that may come and read posts and post decent stuff as and when suit, possibly not post 100 things in record time but at least they may become active and valuable members. Imho, I know which I'd rather choose.

The way it is at the moment is fine, I say keep it this way otherwise people will just take advatage of it and never post or help others in the forum.

Absolutely, I've spent in the region of £400+ in the last week on gtx 480 from overclockers, coolermaster haf x from elswhere, 8 gig patriot 2000mhz ddr3 from elsewhere, lg bluray writer from elsewhere too, whilst still needs core i7 2600k, noctua nh-d14, gonna attempt some indigo extreme possibly too but ocuk do not stock it. also need p8p67 deluxe and asus xonar essence stx, antec big boy fan amongst other stuff too such as 64gb or 128gb c300 ssd and large mechanical hard disk buy still not sure which to go for.

In answer to your question I will be spending a lot of money on kit, i want that money to go on kit not delivery. I am not made of money and its not often I get the chance to spend on this level. I want the best for my cash and will always look for best price. I'm no idiot and because I want to get good kit doesnt mean I want to blow cash on getting it delivered at pay silly prices, especially when getting bit individually (such as holding out for new batch of mobos). My aim is getting the very best deal 100% of the time which I would have thought it simple common sense in the vast majority of people tbh.

I'm not asking for anything, I don't think anyone is. OcUK implemented this policy after coming up with it themselves, I certainly don't remember a ton of people here saying that they wanted it. Having free delivery doesn't make me order from here either, I do that because I've not had a bad experience with them in all the times I've ordered from them.

Free delivery is fine in my book if you don't really have an urgent need for something. or it's something small like a fan that costs nowhere near the postage costs. Hate buying something for like £2 and postage is £6.95 + vat!

I've found in the past that the item or items sit in a warehouse for 4 days before they get shipped or you spend days checking emails to see if anything has been sent yet. Doesn't help if you say order a motherboard and memory from company X and pay for shipping, yet save £20 on a cpu from company Y and get free delivery yet have bits sitting around that are useless until that finally ships.

No hassle when you're spending hundreds to pay £10ish extra and get the items in your hands first thing next day.

The free delivery thing may be like supermarkets tempting you in with "Heinz beans - 4 pack only £1". So you go there to get some and end up spending £30 on other things so the shop is quids in so to speak.

Unfortuantly it isn't going to change any time soon.

Not being funny (well i am) do you think it costs OCUK the pittance they charge on delivery to get a courier to come and pick up a big box of kit and deliver it to your door?

I spent £2500 on some kit last September and i wasnt about to question the £15 it cost to have it all delivered to me. No ones making you buy the kit from different places or a few parts at a time, if you dont want to pay for delivery go to one of the places that offer free delivery or just buy it all from one place.

which is exactly my point, you just stated that postage does not effect your purchase yet you do get free postage as you are a qualifier. But, as you stated you do not buy because of free delivery, you buy because you are a good loyal long time customer in all the times you've ordered from them.

Which is exactly why I said that, although free delivery may not effect you, if could effect new customers that have not had any long and loyal dealing with OCUK and are looking at this stage, for the best possible deals on kit. In this scenario it could mean these new members could go to competitors because they are unfortunate in not already experiencing the service as you have, which is shame as it could mean turning away good customers and possible good forum members.

The problem here though, is that already it seems some loyal forum members/customers here are quick to pre-judge new members. I can understand you your logic and your thoughts about new members, but I ask as a new member to judge me on post quality not quantity given the chance...

I usually buy single items from other places to but come here for larger orders.

I quite like how OCUK rope in free postage with forum involvement myself and hope they keep it that way. The forums here are very active unlike some other sites I could mention (or not!).

I haven't managed it yet but its not that hard to rack up the post count.

I don't pre-judge anyone :) I'm just disagreeing with your idea that free delivery should be made available for anyone who is a forum member. I think it would cost OcUK a lot of money as pretty much everyone would sign up, get their free delivery, and then never use their account again. As far as I know, that's not why the scheme was introduced. I may be wrong here, as I don't know the reasons behind the introduction of the free delivery, but I can imagine they are twofold - to reward long time forum members (who are invariably shop customers), and to encourage forum participation. The owner of OcUK loves these forums (for the most part I reckon :p), and wants to see them grow and thrive. By offering free delivery for loyal and regular forum members, he's encouraging participation in the community, which strengthens it.

That's only my guess of course, but I used to be a mod here and that would be where I'd put my money on the reasons behind it. It's a reward and incentive for forum participation, rather than a business scheme designed to get or attract new customers.

Its nothing to do with pre-judging its judging people who want something for nothing, the kind of person that would take advantage of the free delivery then never come again just like the people who sign up on forums and post once for any free competitions.

Im not loyal to OCUK, i havent spent a lot of money here nor do i get free delivery, im just not someone who expects things unrealistically.
