I've not even earnt free delivery yet, but I still think that it shouldn't be given out to anyone. 250 posts is quite a goal and it prevents people from signing up just to get free delivery.

I don't even qualify, but I agree.

Though possible option for repeat business (OCUK tracks order history) would be welcome.

The repeat business thing could work, but it would have to be over a specified amount of money, to stop people making lots of cheap purchases just to qualify.

Not being funny (well i am) do you think it costs OCUK the pittance they charge on delivery to get a courier to come and pick up a big box of kit and deliver it to your door?

I spent £2500 on some kit last September and i wasnt about to question the £15 it cost to have it all delivered to me. No ones making you buy the kit from different places or a few parts at a time, if you dont want to pay for delivery go to one of the places that offer free delivery or just buy it all from one place.

Well I'm sorry that you feel the need to be funny but, let me get one thing clear - i cant afford 2.5k and its no competition. If I could afford 2.5k maybe I wouldnt care less of £15, but yes I do care of £15 as to me its still a decent amount of money i'd rather have in my pocket than out of it.

Nobody makes me do anything, I never suggested that, what I am asking is for OCUK to make it easier for me to purchase my kit from here, whether it be all together or not. Clearly, your answer is one of tough FULLY STAR YOUR SWEARING PLEASE - fair enough. All I did was ask, and I believe if you dont ask you dont get.

I am still in the market for a fair amount of mid to high end kit. Free delivery would just about tip me over the edge i reckon. Whats the chances OCUK? :)
If you're about to pull the trigger on "a fair amount of mid to high end kit" then surely £8 - or whatever the delivery charge is - is of no real consequence?

edit: Done to death already

That's an interesting idea. Free shipping if you have 250 posts and free shipping if you've spent greater than £nnn in the past 12 months.

It would help people who've made a big purchase but then realised that they need some other "bits" for their new toy; or have caught Upgradus Loopus and feel that their system needs a refresh!

tbh it will make it a lot less exclusive for all the existing "free shipping" members, which if I was one, I'd be miffed.

I used qualify for free shipping but since the postcode changes no longer qualify. I am miffed. It's cost OCUK over £1k in lost orders from me over the past 12 months as i am not paying £12 for a second rate delivery service. I can get next day delivery for free or substantially cheaper from other sites. The strange thing about it is, from a competitor, i can get DPD two day delivery (exactly the same service as i used to qualify for here) still for free. No stupid postcode premiums ther, so why here? I am not even near the highlands and islands anyway.

Sorry but we cannot cater for every eventuality.

If they are giving you free shipping then it will be at their cost. Our business model does not allows us to loose money on shipping, it just doesn't make sense.

Your post is confusing as you have already said you buy elsewhere, so why come on and moan about something you already have a solution to?

There's other things to consider aswell, such as the customer service. In my personal experience the customer service from overclockers is the best I've ever experienced with any online e-tailer and that suffices much more than free delivery for me. The free delivery is a bonus though and I agree that it should be kept the way it is right now.

Because i used to get free shipping from here and used to order from here. You have some good deals yet by the time i add on shipping it usually costs more than from elsewhere. Why is shipping so expensive from here? I can get next day delivery from other places for between £6 and £8 yet here i have to make do with a two day service that costs £12. If the shipping cost's were more reasonable and it was a next day service i would be more inclined to shop here.

I don't pre-judge anyone :) I'm just disagreeing with your idea that free delivery should be made available for anyone who is a forum member. I think it would cost OcUK a lot of money as pretty much everyone would sign up, get their free delivery, and then never use their account again. As far as I know, that's not why the scheme was introduced. I may be wrong here, as I don't know the reasons behind the introduction of the free delivery, but I can imagine they are twofold - to reward long time forum members (who are invariably shop customers), and to encourage forum participation. The owner of OcUK loves these forums (for the most part I reckon :p), and wants to see them grow and thrive. By offering free delivery for loyal and regular forum members, he's encouraging participation in the community, which strengthens it.

That's only my guess of course, but I used to be a mod here and that would be where I'd put my money on the reasons behind it. It's a reward and incentive for forum participation, rather than a business scheme designed to get or attract new customers.

excellent reply and one that makes sense rather than being negative and doesnt contain any flaming. Its a post highlighting that you disagree but with a perfectly good argument, of which I can fully understand from your view points.

I hope you can also look at this from my view point and see what I was trying to say.

All our shipping costs are based on weight and location. I can't change this. So I can't make it more expensive or cheaper. However I can give free shipping.

Read into that what you will. Trust is at the bottom.

Point taken but, rather than having a direct impact on the forum, I was pointing out that it could have an effect on OCUK sales with customers that are looking to spend good money on the cheapest item.

The simple fact is that something like over 90% of OcUK customers do not even post on this forum. We are but a small minority.

As for the impact on OcUK, I am sure that they have done their homework and know their market better than we do.

The forums no doubt breed loyalty, but it is a very vibrant and interesting community. I only joined myself to get some advice as I was having PC issues. Just over a year later I am still hanging around, though mostly talking drivel in General Discussion. :D

The forum is itself not actually paid for by the shop, it is the owner, Spie, who pays for it himself, and it is a little thankyou to regular posters.

At the end of the day, it is a free market and you can go to where is cheapest, after factoring in shipping costs. I would imagine most forum members would be doing this anyway. :)

Oh, I can definitely see your point of view, free shipping can definitely be something that tips the balance in the favour of one e-tailer over another, especially if the item costs are similar. And as you say, if you don't ask, you don't get. Like I said though, in this instance, I think the free shipping is a reward for forum membership and loyalty, rather than an incentive to buy :)

I agree, I only came here to register to thank gibbo for spending my money on the gtx 480 deal, hence my newness. However I had been a lurker for a while too but felt i needed to make my presence known when i wanted to broacast my satisfaction at the deal that was on the table.

I see that there are a few sites that are in direct competition it seems and when i spotted this deal regarding shipping i wanted to see what OCUK's reaction would be because if OCUK competes in this respect and offers similar deal, I am thinking because I am already in the market for some new kit, I stand to benefit of course! lol.

But like someone said earlier, maybe we can earn free shipping another way by maybe becoming valued customers with min spends over a set period. What are peoples view on this? I'd imagine if OCUK can afford to offer free delivery to good members of the forum community, surely this would be possible to good valued and loyal customers?

PS... sorry to moderators for not fully starring my swear!... anyway, look i seem to be creating a bit of a friendly argument so already seem to be contributing! lol.

I always weigh up the different options at different retailers and fact of the matter is, OcUK normally come out cheaper by more than it is to have things delivered.
I sometimes break down some orders between retailers to save 10 or so quid.

OcUK offer us a great service, especially when you add this community in. I have had bad experiences with them, but that can be said with all retailers.

I think if they wanted to extend or change the terms of the free shipping, they'd have to do some kind of business projection to see what kind of financial impact giving away free shipping would have. I can only assume there would be a cut off point where it stops making financial and business sense.

I'm sure everyone shops around anyway.

If I can get something through OCUK cheaper than anywhere else inc delivery then I will.

OCUK service is excellent though, deliveries are quick and so are responses to questions.

I do a price check but since I discovered the OCUk shop is 2 minutes down the road from a site I usually work at at least once a week I consider their prices without delivery anyway as I'd much prefer to pick things up than play the courier lottery, never usually itching to get things next day anyway. Other sites do offer free delivery for orders over a certain value but I've lost count of the number of times I've arranged for myself/someone else to be in at a certain time for a courier and they've not turned up.

If I do have to have something delivered though I tend to prefer Royal Mail/Parcelforce whatever it is over DPD etc as the local depot it pretty close so its easy to pick something up, and in my experience they do tend to make a decent effort to deliver/leave with neighbours etc.
