Discuss - S2000

About 5,653,433,311 S2000s are put into ditches/across roundabouts/into poles and flung off the side of the earth into orbit every winter, every year.

Hence the insurance cost!

A few basic bits changed and that's highly modified, what planet do you live on?

Planet earth, you?

Do you know how much hard tops and coilovers cost for these things? PERSONALLY I think its highly modified, I hope thats ok with you, please god, let it be ok, I dont want to have a debate over personal opinion on the internets :(

Think it seems to be more that most of them all seem to be terrified to drive it in the rain like its some beast set out to kill them.

I used to hear the same about MR2's also and now currently owning a mk2 rev 1 deathtrap :p I've noticed you really have to be driving like a tit to seriously unsettle it.

Only due to inbred morons not knowing how to drive a car properly

Or the fact the car punishes driver error like most other cars wouldn't. The originals had S-02 bridgestones which were amazing in the dry but a little lacking in the wet, damp winters here in the UK

I don't really see the relevance of the inbred comment, the reputation was build on the 1999-2002 models which were being crashed less than 3 yrs old. The claim history is why the insurance rating is so high.

(£580 FC for 28yr old here)

I ran summer tyres though the snow on my MR car, and I managed just fine by knowing that where would be crap and controlling the slides.

No different to the S2k setup on the S02s really, you need to be aware of how your car will behave in different conditions and be prepared to drive according and the skill to drive so

If it was a GT it would have come with the hard-top. He may of done a swap with another owner for a different colour or painted. At worst....~£3,000 all in including fittings from Honda as new, at best, totally free with a swap or the cost of a paint-job.

Can pick-up second hand hardtops for 700-1000. Hardly bank breaking?

I don't even consider a hardtop as modified, it's an OEM part - an option!

S-02s are basically track tyres with very little water shifting ability. Combined with the rear wheel steering it catches a lot of people out. They insurance claim history is proof enough that they are crashed more than most cars.

I love the look of having the hardtop, looks absolutely brilliant. However I also love to have the roof down and would be one of the main points for me to buy one and could I really be arsed to put the hardtop on everytime I wanted it to look a smidge cooler? Nah, I'd be kidding myself if I thought otherwise!

So is the consensus to stay away from the £5k mark S2000's? I would have thought they are pretty reliable cars and yes ok a 99/00 one is going to be a little long in the tooth but surely nothing a good service can't fix and maybe spunking some cash on refreshing the chasis parts?

Hilly: Isn't that a pic of one with a hardtop in your sig? :p

I had a hard top with my s2k, I took it off, left it in the garage then flogged it three months later

that was in the middle of winter too, utterly pointless unless you live somewhere with kids who love knifing your soft-top or you are a gigantic mincer

Not far off summer low thread rubber or R888s
