Welcome back Indie.

Alex is busy right now i presume. He used to organize the tourneys

Perhaps somebody else could organize the event while he's busy.

Also don't forget that we have "OcUK" channel up and running so join it so that we have some FFA games or maybe if enough people 4v4.

i should be about later hopefully in channel or defo tomorrow night. Never played FFA's but enjoy 4v4's for a laugh!

I am a lowly bronze but ranked 1 in my league (1500+)!!

i would be happy to do so although i've only played with a couple of you and don't know what format you guys went for last time. if others are happy for me to do so then just let me know, and post what sort of setup would suit you best i.e. ongoing or over just one evening, etc. :)

First it was 1v1 then 2v2 then 1v1 again.

2v2 there was not much interest so we did that in 1 day and it worked

With 1v1 it would get dragged on for weeks so we were saying that it would be better if such even was organised just for the weekend or even for just 1 day.

If you can't do first matches on Saturday you're out. That sort of thing but the problem is a lot of people can't join tourney with such strict schedule and if we have relaxed schedule I will just get dragged on for weeks.

So here's the dilemma.

Here's the tread of the last tourney we had http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18213931

Have been playing again for the last couple days, it's amazing how rusty you can get at this. I think general skill level has improved though.

No more 4 gate, win in customs :)

So after a 3 week break from the ladder, playing custom maps, I had been having a rough time after I got into Silver, losing 90% of my matches.

So I decided to have another crack at it, after watching a stream of a guy trying to get from Silver to Master league whilst using nothing but 4Gate All Ins (20 probes, 1 gas) and seeing how stupidly easy it looked, I thought I would give it a go, after a rather...surprising, few hours, I want to share a little something.

DISCLAIMER: I had never 4 gated before this, ever, my standard builds were 3 gate FE and 2gate robo.

Yeah I don't play much, anyway my first silver game was 2 games before the last on the left side, as you can see I wasn't doing so well.

So let's look at the right side, shall we?

First game was the top of the left shot, I decided to go a standard 2gate robo and lost to a really shoddy 4 gate (he got supply blocked at 18/18 for an entire minute), after this I thought "That's it, morals can bugger off, let's give 4 gating a go".

So then I started winning.

Those on the right are the only other games I've played, every single* one was over before the 10 minute mark, there were a few oddballs, one guy who opened 2 gate into a failed canon rush, I watched my replays and my APM barely went over 40, I made silly mistakes, missed a gas until my core was finished, still curb stomped my opponent. All games were against silver players.

Before this my highest streak was 7 and my games lasted 20+ minutes.

4gate is OP...AND I CAN'T STOP DOING IT.

*Edit: OK I have to admit (I don't believe in Karma but I'm paranoid) 2 of those games were not 4 gates, one was an instant leave, the other was some crazy game against a zerg on Scrap who expo'd to the island and didn't attack me for 20 minutes whilst I took 5 bases and killed his attempts to do the same, I ended up getting a mothership and warping my entire force to the island.

If people don't learn how to counter a 4gate they can't moan when you use it, I play terran and always play expecting a 4gate and change my style after a few scans.

4-gate is extremely effective against bronze and silver players, and whilst it certainly an accepted build in diamond/master, it is by no means overpowered.

I actually did a similar thing to you. I was a gold zerg who was struggling dealing with 4-gates, so I thought I'd try out protoss and see what it's like on the other side. After initial teething problems with a change of race (read: loss after loss :p), similarly to you I started to win a lot of games doing 4-gates virtually every game, every matchup.

However, after a bit I started losing quite a lot, these were the replays that I was interested in :). It dawned on me that in all matchups the counter to 4-gates is ridiculously easy. Top level plays might disagree with below mind (I'm still only gold) and I'd love to hear your anti 4gate builds :).

T v P: MM+stim is insanely effect against gateway, especially behind a wall. Concussive shells thrown into the mix just makes it laughable.
P v P: 2gate + robo with sentries at the ramp. If the 4-gate lands before an immortal pops FF the ramp entirely and wait for the immortal, otherwise split the force in half and literally eat everything alive.
Z v P: Possibly the hardest matchup to deal with it, but better map vision means you can see it a mile off. It also depends massively on the map, but the general jist is roaches + 2 or 3 spines and you're done.

I've only ever played pvp and zvp, but it makes me rather happy when I see a 4-gate :). In pvp especially, the standard 2gate+robo means you don't have to even scout it, just keep a very close eye on your ramp between 6:30 and 7:30. Once the initial attack fails even with a proxy there is nothing they can do, they will lose. If a 4-gate doesn't come then continue your build however you want to for the mid game.

So to conclude, 4-gate is not OP.

Good job welshdragon.

Missed your message on the OcUK channel earlier about 4v4. Recently got promoted to platinum 4v4 random and it's been tough. My friend is going for master league 4v4 random so been playing a lot in 3 player pre-made going into 4v4 games.

Yea, been swamped with work for the most part. How do people feel about an open 2v2 tourney next weekend? :D

Dunno how much time I'm going to have over the next few months to organise tourneys generally though :(

Great to see indie and kar back in the fray :D

hmm. against protoss i have yet to have any trouble with early game pushes, except for when i used to try and fast expand. it seems a wall and just some unit are good enough

(platinum terran)

Cheers dude and no worries. I like to play with high ranked members for the obvious reasons and also because I watch how they play and learn.

Well done! :D

Cheers mate!
