Hi all be gentle with me, been away from PC building for a few years.

My old PC was water damaged and after a few weeks waiting for someone to say yay or nae as to wether I would get a payout or not I finally got a £730 cheque in yesterday, but after looking on the site everything has changed so so much in a few years.

I would like to stay AMD I had a crosshair Motherboard before and liked it so would like the new IV version maybe, as for RAM, GPU, PSU and CPU I have no idea. And after hours of looking things are not getting easier lol.

Basically I have the case Tsunami one, I have a x-fi music edition sound card, I have the spare hard disk with my old stuff on it but not main one and i have the optical drives. So I Need Psu, motherboard, CPU, gfx card, memory and I think that is it.

I use the PC mainly for gaming, Black Ops just now and watching movies etc, so a gaming rig is mainly what I'm looking for and a top line of £730 if possible.

Any help very gratefully received

Thanks

Michelle

Changes to that build:
swap the 6970 for a 6950
-then unlock the shaders and overclock

swap phenom II for a i5-2500k and crosshair for a p8p67

swap cooler for a aska venom (you'll want a better aftermarket cooler if you want to take full advantage of your cpu)

Quad core is faster for a gaming pc.

And a SSD with your existing HDD for storage.

As above really. HD6950 can be flashed to a HD6970 (they're near identical cards, except one has locked shaders, that can be unlokced via a flash ;))

Brilliant modular PSU, only thing I would do is swap the 970 to a 955BE and use the change to buy an aftermarket cooler.

Wow thanks very much for your time and effort to post all the replies guys. Think I could wittle all that down to a good system from the AMD side of things. I have always used AMD so am even more clueless for intel based systems and everything just seems more complicated and expensive. For a good sandybridge system at the same price how much better performance would I get? And erm an example basket like the above posts would be fantastic. All very hard to do research and shop via an iPhone just :(

Thanks again

Ok I see the difference now lol, I will break my old habits and give an Intel based system a try then. I'm sure putting it all together will be just as easy, its just getting best value for my money I'm finding hard. I have to send receipt back to insurance company so want to use all the £730 but as I have just lost my job I can't put anything towards it myself. Back to the research, for intel now though lol

Thanks again

This motherboard only supports a single graphics card.

And the ram special deal ends at 9 tomorrow morning, so it will creep a little closer to £730 still.

Am half way there I think, am going to get both the -

Asus ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card &
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor

As for PSU, RAM, motherboard and Disk Drive I am still undecided. At just over £330 left after getting the GPU and CPU things get tight and there is always a compromise to be made with the remaining items. However I liked the Asus P8P67 LE Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) at £119, and Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 700W Power Supply at £83 leaving me with just £80 ish to get HDD so think just normal sata maybe rather than SS although it is mighty tempting.

Anyway what is your thoughts on the PSU and motherboard I like?
