2011 Weight Loss Thread!

i've always been heavy set but not fat (had a few six pack periods) but it's in my genes, my dad played centre, my brother and uncle were prop forward, i was all set for following in my dads foot steps but smoking and injury kinda put an end to that and i simply wasn't fast enough over anything over 30 metres at the end of the day. i'm 5'10/11 and 102kg and don't want to lose weight but i would like to improve my fitness and have started to cut my intake of bread and milk as i find this works best for me, along with walking with short sprint bursts but i'm not going to go crazy on it and i definitely wasn't built for skinny jeans :p

Cheers mate. I've got a nasty injury that prevents me from running so it's not easy. I'm smashing out the cross trainer though and doing lots of activity to try and burn the fat off.

My problem is my drinking, when I stopped smoking I didn't stop drinking lager, I just drank more as I had more spare money to drink with. I've cut down to nothing during the week thankfully and I'm trying to limit weekend activity as well.

Still not smoking though, two years on! :D

Weight loss is 70-80% diet anyway - exercise is an awesome addition but a smaller part of the equation. Walking is a pretty decent way to get your heart rate up, you don't need to run.

I Disagree with this, I've not really changed my diet and lost 2 stone in 4 months.

The end result is always based on the simple equation: calories in vs calories out, get the second higher than the first by increasing exercise or by reducing calorie intake it doesn't really matter. Obviously, for best results fix both sides and see epic results!

Some people (like myself) find cutting out food they enjoy far far harder than increasing physical exertion, others have better self control from a dietary PoV but less physical drive

Granted but when your daily calorific intake is double the RDA or in some cases triple, no amount of exercise is going to make an appreciable difference. Unfortunately your body will hit a plateau and you'll have to work significantly harder to shift extra weight.

If you can do that - that's all good but as you say it's a simple equation - Cin vs Cout. Cutting your diet back to a reasonable level will produce larger gains/losses and in the long run forming a good eating habit will vastly increase your chances of keeping the weight off.

About 90kg and 6'. Keep changing my mind between upping to 100kg or dropping to 80kg. Chances are i be up and down throughout the year depending on what im training towards at the time

I've actually found this brilliant app called 'Weight Loss Trainer' on Android that basically allows you to set your goals and it suggests required eating and exercise regimes to reach them. It then tracks your progress meal by meal and day by day and has great charts to keep you motivated. Brilliant thing.
Weight Loss for Cardio Trainer?
I'm doing ok but could do with being a bit stricter and think a decent recording tool will help for that, yours sounds good but searching "Weight Loss Trainer" didn't show any specific results.

Does it count that I lost 5 stone from April 2009 to April 2010?

Currently off work ill as I have gallstones and they're giving me a good kicking at the moment.

Thankfully my gall bladder will be out soon :(

So in about 4 weeks I have lost 6 lbs. All thats changed is Im not eating anything sugery, drinks, sweets, chocolate, cakes etc. Im also in the process of doing the one hundred push ups challenge (http://hundredpushups.com/index.html) but i doubt thats affecting it much. I've also been watching the calories / fat / carbs Im eating as well, trying to cut down - seems to be working.

Planning on starting to cycle / jog a bit in a few weeks. Hoping for 14st by the end of april at the very latest, but id hopefully be somewhere near that around end of march. I have two weeks off over Easter as well. My plan is to go crazy then with lots of running / jogging, cycling and maybe swimming.

I'm 17 years old. Used to play rugby and was about 13 stone and I'm 5ft 11, I stopped playing rugby at 16 years old and since then I've lost most of my muscle and put on weight, I've always been a big guy, with broad shoulders but now I'm 15.5 stone and still 5ft 11, totally unhappy with my weight fitness and diet.

My plan is to do the following:

- Join the Gym
- Complete the 100 push up challenge. (On the initial test I only managed 10 :()
- Eat more healthy
- Complete the 200 sit ups challenge. (On the initial test I only managed 11 :()

I want to lose most of my flab, then regain weight again but in the form of muscle.

I want to be 12-13 stone by May and then be 15 stone in June-July I think these are hard targets but I believe with discipline they are attainable.

Good luck to everyone else who's trying to lose weight.

On the initial test for the 100 push ups, i managed 9 i think. On my last set of Week 2 Day 3 i managed 18. Will let you know how many i managed on the exhaustion test. Body weight will affect it a lot.

According to google I weight 98.7Kg

I think the hardest task for me is joining the gym, I don't know why but I'm so embarrassed. I was never like this, I was a super confident guy in secondary school and was very sporty I did good at P.E. and was in most sports teams. Ever since college lost all my confidence.

I just have this idea in my head that going to the gym everyone will be fit and I'll look like the stupid sweaty fat guy. It's a complete mental block, I know it won't be like that but I'm still scared to go.

I kind of feel like that now, but i also cant be bothered to go to the gym at the moment lol. Mainly just working on diet to start with.

Its funny, back in my previous job (shelf stacker) just before i left i weighed around 12 stone maybe 11st 10 and went to the gym quite a bit enjoyed it too but cant motivate my self to go now. Im planning on rejoining at the end of april however.

I'm getting on the "2011 Weight Loss" bandwagon. Joining a gym this year which has 24/7 access which I think will be easier as I can go at less busy times, e.g. 21:50 instead of posting on forums :P

I need to get on the bike more in the left hand side of shot too, please excuse the super tired/ginger haired/unshaven look.

Currently weigh between 22.5 and 23 stone / 145kg and am 6ft 4 tall.

Do not bulk by the scale, you will be gaining a lot of fat especially with those figures.

Personally Ive lost ~10-14lbs since the start of january consisting of a lot of water loss and bloat (Do a lot of weight training/resistance work compared to the average person, and bloated up a lot over the christmas period :p).

IMO.

Though are good goals, are going to do nothing for you and if anything put you off.

Situps aren't exactly great for you, especially if putting pressure on your feet to do them. There are so many better core exercises out there, I really dislike situps and find they just don't work my core like so many others.
