2011 Weight Loss Thread!

Im 6'1" and at th ebeginning of last week was 15stone

Have not had a drink since, and have eaten very healthily since, am now 14st 8 :)

Just need to get into the excersise bit now, ideally want to be back down to around 13stone and lose the beer gut :)

I decided to join Slimming World for 2011, the UK's 'other' slimming group. Weight Watchers is to do with portion control (which I'm rubbish at), where SW is more about food groups. I've lost 11 lb over 6 weeks under the programme so far.

As well as fruit/veg, you can have unlimited eggs. The bad press about high cholesterol in eggs is regarded as old fashioned now. Then if you pick a 'green' day, starch foods are unlimited. On 'red' days, protein is unlimited. Amber day is a hybrid of the 2. You can have a limited amount of dairy and bread. After this, there are synergy foods which run on a points system similar to WW. You don't have to count calories. The worst food in the whole wide world is, wait for it.... fruit juice. It's 1.5x worse than beer!

I haven't done any exercise since about September when it started to get colder and wetter. Managed to put back on 10Kg since then (75>85)

IMO.

Though are good goals, are going to do nothing for you and if anything put you off.

Situps aren't exactly great for you, especially if putting pressure on your feet to do them. There are so many better core exercises out there, I really dislike situps and find they just don't work my core like so many others.

Thanks for the feedback.

Although they are in my goals, they are not my main objectives. They are just little things I want to do on the way.

And I know about core we had to do tonnes of it for rugby fitness e.g. holding a plank for bloody ages.

The press ups are more important to me than sit ups anyway as press ups work all your body (although not all at the same rate) and getting to 100 is just a step I want to be able to do multiples of hundred after.

But more importantly than all of this is the lifestyle changes I want to undertake, eating better and having a more active lifestyle.

I lost my dad (62) last year to a heart attack, no doubt hastened by the fact that he often indulged in one too many pork pies, and had a freezer 80% stocked with steaks- no exaggeration. I'd say he weighed around 19-20 stone at the time.

So, my brother and I swore to never end up like him; I was once 18 stone and didn't really give a rats arse about it.. now, I'm 16 stone and dropping steadily. I've got myself on the NHS 'Lifestyle Programme' which nets me a few months free gym membership, too. Ask your GP about it.

Good man - you keep it up!!! Keep us updated with how you're going!

Bit of an update then.

I've now got down to 22st 7 llb, and i'm hoping to get into the 21st bracket by the end of the month and i'm still on course for my 20st goal by June.

Again i'll reiterate i can't believe how much better i feel now with regards to fitness and levels of energy etc. It just gets better and better and i just keep thinking to myself now "if i feel this good at 22st, how much better will i feel at 16-17st and so on", so this has now become my another big motivator for me.

Thinking of joining a gym now, i've not gone that route rightly or wrongly up to now through embarressment, but i think the time is coming that i need to step it up a gear as i have no room at home for more exercise equipment. I think i've done well to get this far by myself at home with just dumbell weights, treadmill and a slam man, and of course the diet!!!

Nice one always good to see people do well with weight loss.

I've always been up and down, could never figure out where i was going wrong, then one day it clicked and it's been great since.

I was 18st and after 2 years dropped to 13st2lb but i still felt fat. So anyway went onto the weights bulked up for a few months and hit 15st 11lb.

Been cutting for 9 weeks now and i've lost 12lb so im now at 14st 13lb, and im carrying less fat now than i was at 13st 2lb. Not far being able to see my abs now.

I am quite lucky with regards to eating, i don't stray at all nor do i crave anything, if i want something sure i'll have to but i don't binge at all. Most of the time it's protein and veg, i no longer garner any pleasure from eating, it's just sustenance to me.

People don't care when seeing an over weight person in the gym, really they couldn't care less. If anything they would glance over and think "good for you".

I was going to the gym on and off since 18 until 25 where I was around 11-12 stone (up and down). I've been trying to go back to the gym these days as I've shot up to 15 stone and beside feeling angry with myself when I cant hit targets I was doing 5 years ago, there isn't any problem with the gym.

I've lost over a stone since xmas and have continued to improve in strength :)

If you want something to work towards if you aren't a frequent gym-goer, try working towards 5 hanging pull ups like these:

They are really hard!

Couldn't even do one chin-up in september, and last time I tried I could do 4 hanging pull ups, so I think that's some good progress. Sadly, it can absolutely wreck your wrists / forearms if you are a wuss like me - I'm having to rest up :(

Just a heads up: from what you wrote it seems that you're of the opinion that fat/cholesterol intake is a problem. This is not the case.

The meat and fat in a pork pie isn't the problem, it's everything else.

My Aunt was diagnosed with high cholesterol a couple of years ago and was told to reduce her consumption of fat and cholesterol . I've had a hard time convincing her otherwise.

That isn't to say go nuts and eat loads of pies and pasties or whatever.

Slightly unfortunate story: my flatmate came into the kitchen as I was about to eat 6 scambled eggs, 4 rashers of bacon and a large handful of spinach. He made some kind of unhealthy/artery clogging comment, so I explained why he was wrong (dietary cholesterol vs. blood cholesterol, insulin sensitivity, etc.). I also said bread and pasta weren't great for you and things like beans were much better. He has since been eating copious amounts of baked beans (the type in sugary sauce) AS WELL as his usual diet. I'm going to wait a while until I tell him, serves him right for stealing my milk ;)

I'm 6ft, 2 weeks ago I was almost 16st.

I went back on the "university diet", which is basically cereal, granary bread w/ soup, and 74p ready meals, plus water. At the weekend, a bunch of veg and meat in a casserole. Occasional snacks of nuts and fruit so I don't die.

Now I'm 15st. - so far so good. 13st is my target 'for now'.

:eek:I don't trust the way they move:eek:

Hi All

Just to give some of you guys some incentive, im 5'7 and i weighed 15'11, i smoked, but upto 2 years ago a wen the gym 3-4 times a week which included cardio and weights, i would have classed my self as pretty fit, stocky build etc, in the two years i hadnt been the gym i didnt put weight on, down a few lbs and up a few, never over 16 stone.

I wouldnt class myself as a crap eater, usually a curry or pizza once a week, hardly eat chips etc, and tried to eat healthyish mostly, also i havnt touched a drop of alcohol in two years and only drank 1-2 a month before that.

Now on the 8th of feb this year i decided go back to the gym, i re-joined and in i went, i started on the treadmill just to start off easy, just a sharpish walk, 15 minutes later i felt exhausted and sweating a lot, i thought this aint normal and so i left, started getting chest pains, sore neck and arms, dizzy etc etc, i phoned 999 and was rushed to hospital, heart attack, i was operated on and had 2 stents put inside my arteries.

My wake up call, oh and i am 40 years old.

Things are going well though at the moment.

I am not aiming to get rid of much weight, but I was eating about 3000 calories a day worth of stuff, not bad meals but way way to big, about 3 x bigger than normal servings, and was snacking on milkshake, cookies etc which was very bad for me. I was feeling rubish, finding it harder to breath and coughing a fair bit, I was also getting a bit of a tummy going on.

Got into this habit after doing my house up and it was hard to break, so gone on a healthy eating streak, which I have now been doing for 3 weeks. Cutting down to around 1500 - 1800 calories a day and making sure I eat between 5 and 7 servings of fruit or veg a day. As a side effect of this I feel much better and much more energetic, I have also lost 7 pounds in 3 weeks which is crazy!

Jcb33.

I lost 3 kilos in the last 2 and a half weeks! through running and cycling! trying to lose my gut :P

* 5' 7" 10 stone 5 now 10 stone exactly*

Baked beans, half a ton of salt in them, I dont added salt to any of my food and always check sodium content, just as bad as sat fats

You lost 14 pounds in 2 weeks, thats impossible just from eating.

I have lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks eating healthy, had a a cheat meal a week and a few pints, been exercise running/rowing/cycling/swimming and lifting weights, feel stronger and fitter.
