find me a job

You don't like dealing with people? An attitude like that will get you absolutely nowhere. I can't think of a single job that doesn't involve dealing with people one way or another.

I started work at age 14 stacking shelves. That was 40 years ago. 95% of people all have to start from the bottom and work up. From what I can gather, you are no exception considering your age and lack of experience.

Also, in this day and age with the credit crunch on, you will only make yourself more and more frustrated if you are too choosy about the type of work you are willing to do.

My first job was delivering advertising leaflets after school for so little money it hardly mattered.

Second job was stamping papers. Literally picking one up, putting it into the stamping machine and then out again. All day, all summer, all other vacations, all until I got promoted to something better.

You have to start at the bottom somewhere. ANY work experience is good. It teaches you things even if it's not the same that you want to be doing in a couple of years. And it looks good on the CV too.

Sorry to say but I think you need to sort your attitude if you want to get a job.

I'm in the same boat (ish) although a few years older. Yes I have a job. Do I like it? No I hate it but it keeps the food and beer in my belly for now. I am doing a course from home to try and get the skills to get a job in what I enjoy doing, which is computers. And their are no jobs where I live in the field I want to go in. It will probably take me years to get there but If I sit here and do nothing about it, it will never happen.

Life is a pain in the ass, just grit your teeth and get on with it like millions of other people in your shoes.

^ This, and if you're worried about losing your car, why not find yourself any job for now to help cover this expenses whilst carrying on looking until you get yourself into something you want to. Once losing your car you'll only get yourself into more frustration

if you lack the practical skills why dont you gain some knowledge by messing around inside your own computer/ learn from the internet?

A job is a job at the end of the day and to turn and say money doesnt matter isnt very wise.

I want to see if there's any jobs at Morrison but their website says nothing about part time general assistants. Should I phone my nearest store and ask for vacancy's is this the right way of doing it?

Find a job by yourself you lazy bum!

The title is misleading sorry, I'm not asking for you to find me one, I just asked am I finding out if there any jobs in the correct way or can you only apply for jobs that are actually advertised, and in my area there seems very few.

Edit: They don't have any vacancy's they said on the phone. Sure because half your tills are empty and your always out of stock ****.

FULLY STAR SWEARWORDS!

Don't mean to be too rude but...I cant believe how someone can be so incompetent at BASIC things as to what to do at trying to get a job. There are so many avenues to seek jobs.

I got a job about 3 days after I finished secondary school at my local Tesco stacking shelf's for 3 years while learning web design and development, and going to college at the same time.

Then couldnt get anywhere in Web design so went to work at 'The Link' and old phone shop like 'Phones 4 u'. It was a terrible job with crappy pay. All I did both times was just walked in and asked to see if any jobs were available or in the case of Tesco, they normally have a 'vacancies' board where the tills are and I presume most other supermarkets have them.

Another good route to finding work is to use agencies. An agency I used to get some experience was called Brook Street in London which got me a 1 week temp job which turned into 6 month job which helped me gain the basic office, organisational and communication skills that I was lacking to help me to get a foot into the web design industry.

If you wasn't at college, I would recommend the agency route, but getting a decent(ish) job while your at college will be very hard, I would recommend looking into retail shops in town, like game, river island etc, they always seem to be hiring round near where I live.

But ask for the manager regarding jobs not a ditsy sales assistant :)

I am at college doing a BTEC which is equivalent to 3 A-Levels, but I can't do an apprenticeship along with the BTEC if I wanted to get the three distinctions. I get no money no EMA or job seeker money not that I want any of it. But I am struggling to find work relating to my college course, seriously struggling. I looked at the local papers, the closest job relating to something I could do was a designer for wrapping paper..

Possibly I could try applying for engineering company's but there aren't many around here especially as I might have to sell the car.

I did the same course as you, BTEC National Diploma in IT and in 2009 I finished it. Worked my ass off in getting three distinctions, top of my class and now after looking for IT jobs for well over a year, I work in a factory checking parts for quality for £6 p/h. :(

I stopped looking for IT jobs now, there's no point, no one even wants to see you since you got no experience and most jobs want uni degree for a simple job like data entry...It's a joke.

Having a college degree is useless, won't get you anywhere. All my friends who did the same course as me are on the dole or working in a charity shop to get experience.

You need to realize that our generation got screwed by everybody. We won't have any pension, retirement age will be 70+ by the time we get old, we won't be able to buy a house until we are 50 years old, won't be able to afford to have a family and most of us from 2011 won't even be able to go to uni with the increase in cost of 300% in one year.

My best advice to you is, what ever dreams you have, throw them out and try and get minimum wage job. Even though there are 2.5 million unemployed people in the UK and only like 500k jobs available, even getting minimum wage job seems almost impossible.

Good Luck ;)

It ****s me off when people whine about there being no jobs; maybe if you stopped whining and being so negative you'd find something. Yes, it might not be in what you want but there are always jobs to be found. I've never been unemployed since I was 17, and bar my first interview at 16 that I messed up through inexperience, I have never had an interview that wasn't followed up with a job offer.

It's all about how you come across, if you're a whiny inconfident kid with no intersocial skills then yes, you will struggle in all aspects of life be it getting a job to women and even getting served at a busy bar. Put yourself out there properly, if you want to get a job and believe you can do something and offer the company more than they currently have, you will get it. Also, I've only ever had one of my jobs through "official" channels, others have been from putting myself into the right place and asking about jobs that dont even exist yet, even if it's going into a shop and speaking to the manager directly, or asking around for people that already work places.

I have no doubt that if I was left unemployed tomorrow I would be able to get a job in <2 weeks; not necessarily a good job (although it's not unlikely that it will be), but a job, and I have no qualifications beyond GCSE.

I can see it in my extended social circle, the only people who can't get jobs are the people that are socially retarded and think the world owes them. If I was recruiting I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole either. It's not there are no jobs out there, it's you're unemployable as you come across, fix this and you'll get a job and you can move up from there.

PS This isn't directed at anyone, just the general "OMG THE WORLD IS SO UNFAIR" bunch that think there are really no jobs out there, and are using the recession as an excuse for their patheticness. Either way it's probably a good idea to get my flameproof suit on ;)

You should have stayed on and did a Higher National Dipoma in IT System Support, that's what i did.

I knew that the National Diploma wouldn't get me a job, so i stayed at College for another 2 years and did the HND which opens up way more jobs then the National Diploma does, and if i wanted to go to Uni to do a course in IT, i can skip the first year (possibly 2nd) due to having the HND.

If you can, get a part-time job and go back to College and get that qualification. After i got it, it was looking for 2 months and found a £16,500 job doing 1st/2nd line support work - i was way out of my depth and my manager knew that be he said i came across eager and enthusiastic which goes a long way in interviews.

I stayed there for a 18 months then got promoted to Desktop Support Engineer and moved to their London office building servers and getting well paid £23,000 which isn't bad considering i'd only been working for 18 months.

There are plenty of Desktop Support jobs up and down the country, so saying that there isn't any just shows that you're not looking hard enough.

Look at cwjobs, reed, monster etc.. and search for technical support and you'll see loads of the buggers.

A college degree is not useless, it gets you into uni. I completed a BTEC national in computing in 2003 then did Business computing from 2003 - 2007. This included a work experience year for one year.

I then travelled, returned and found a job within 2 months. I was made redundant from that job just after a year but found another one within one month. Then made redundant from that one after 6 months but found a job whilst I was still there. I start my new job next week and also have an interview today, to keep my options open

Get your CV looking better, download some training videos for things like Citrix, AD and group policy. It shows you are keen to learn, even if you cant get the experience within a company
